ODD FELLOW REBEKAH HOME ASSOCIATION is Hiring a Director of Nursing (DON) Near Green, WI

Position Summary

  • The Director of Nursing is a Registered Nurse who is directly responsible for providing for and continually reassessing the nursing services for resident care to meet the established objectives of the facility. The DON is responsible for supervision of the direct nursing staff’s ability to perform resident care in accordance with DHS-132 rules and regulations, CMS State Operations Manual, Nursing Standards of Practice, Resident Bill of Rights, Nursing Services Policies and Procedures, and the facility Employee Handbook.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ascertain the type and amount of nursing care required to achieve the stated objectives of the facility.
  • Maintains proper staffing levels.
  • Provide written job descriptions for all categories of nursing service personnel.
  • Oversee and manage the recruitment, hiring, and training of nursing personnel.
  • Execute at specified intervals performance evaluations for all nursing personnel by seeking evidence of abilities and degree of performance.
  • Hold regular staff meetings to provide information and gather input.
  • Create opportunity for personnel growth and development.
  • Oversee the training, supervising, and counseling of direct nursing staff.
  • Assure and monitor a program of mandatory In-service education for nursing staff.
  • Discipline, in agreement with Administrator and/or CEO, and terminate nursing staff, in agreement with Administrator and/or CEO.
  • Collaborate with Administrator to assign responsibility and authority in the nursing department.
  • Provide for proper utilization of all nursing personnel and delegation of authority proportionate to position.
  • Interpret and create departmental policies and procedures.
  • Develop a nursing organization structure.
  • Maintains direct and open communication with direct nursing staff, peers, and Administrator.
  • Analyze and assess nursing care.
  • Keeps Administrator apprised of status of all residents and staffing issues.
  • Designates another RN as acting DON on weekday shift when DON is not in facility.
  • Reports resident change of condition and/or health status change to department heads at daily “stand-up” meeting.
  • Review and maintain QAPI reports on a monthly basis.
  • Monitor nursing assessments and documentation in residents’ medical record for timeliness and accuracy.
  • Follow-up and investigate any resident involved in serious incidents.
  • Is always an advocate for the residents assuring quality care.
  • Monitors and works with the ADON and other departments, as necessary, to enable residents to do as much of their own care as possible.
  • Monitor the nursing care plan in the residents’ medical record to assure it mirrors the current condition of the resident.
  • Document in the resident medical record according to facility policy and procedure and maintain the record in an approved manner.
  • Answer call lights and seeks staff.
  • Assure all resident rights are maintained at all times. Report and investigate any violation or suspected violation according to facility policy, federal, or state regulation.
  • Follow all safety, security, infection control, and hazardous materials policy and procedure.
  • Monitors performance of all tasks to assure resident and personal safety and protection of the property of the Odd Fellow Home.
  • Serve as a professional role model.
  • Work tactfully and cooperatively with residents, families, visitors, and other staff throughout the facility.
  • Know and follow existing lines of communication and authority.
  • Attend department head meetings and continuing education programs to keep abreast of current trends in medical science with special emphasis in the area of gerontology.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff in-service programs.
  • Maintain and safeguard entrusted confidential information.
  • Support and be loyal to the facility and its mission statement.
  • Be flexible, receptive, and adaptive to change.
  • Understand and apply basic principles of good housekeeping and safety.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Administrator.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • May perform discharge nursing instructions, documents and review of information on residents.
  • Complies with Facility Privacy Practices as governed under HIPAA requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Registered Nurse licensed by the State of Wisconsin.
  • Has at least 5 years geriatric and supervisory experience.
  • Has working knowledge of DHS-132 and OBRA regulations, or the ability to obtain same.
  • Has a good working knowledge of RAI/MDS/RAPS/PDPM, or the ability to obtain same.
  • Possesses broad knowledge of nursing and accurate nursing assessment skills.
  • Current certification in CPR or will obtain it within the orientation period.
  • Ability to apply principles of sound nursing administration.
  • Possess leadership, good communication, and people skills.
  • Has the ability to work cooperatively with others, be self-motivated and work independently.
  • Has the ability of correcting errors in nursing staff performance while preserving the dignity of those involved.
  • Must be organized and set work related priorities.
  • Has a basic knowledge of computers or is able to learn the computer system currently set up in the facility.
