Job Description

Positionis primarily office based and located in Great Falls, MT with travel togeneration facilities located in Kevin, Montana and Ethridge, Montana, andtravel to company offices in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Calgary, Alberta Canada

 

TheConstruction Manager plans, budgets and directs short and long-term electricalgenerating plant construction, including renewables, and related transmissionfacilities, in a manner that is safe, cost effective, and timely. Projects mayinvolve multiple site locations and involve millions in expenditure level.Supports all construction activities associated with new and existinggeneration projects. Supports project budget updates, direct oversight ofcontractors and consultants which support site development and constructionactivities throughout the projects’ lifecycle.Administers the associated contracts, ensures site compliance withenvironmental and other permits, regulatory requirements, safety requirements,and quality of the development and construction. This position maintains keybusiness, public and stakeholder relationships and includes interaction withlandowners, local, state and government employees, engineers, contractors,consultants, and other stakeholders. Coordinates with other departments tocomplete development and construction tasks.

 

Primary Duties andResponsibilities

  • Develops project construction plans, budgets and schedules.Provides direction and coordinates project activities associated with capital investments for construction of new utility scale electric generating facilities, including renewables and related transmission facilities.
  • Provides technical construction expertise and reviews the design drawings for solar, battery storage or natural gas generating facilities, and for substation and transmission line projects for constructability.
  • Monitors, inspects, and accepts construction work done by outside contractors. Oversees site construction activities including contractor performance relative to schedule, quality, safety and compliance. Provides direction to contractor as assigned. Monitors and reports on performance related to safety, compliance, budget, schedule and quality for all site development and construction activity.
  • Coordinates project-related efforts with project managers, project engineers, operations and other departments and government agencies. Reviews contractors work schedules to make sure contract construction work is completed in accordance with Company imposed deadlines. Reviews and approves contractor’s monthly invoices for payment.
  • Utilizes knowledge of OSHA standards to provide input for project safety.Complies with Companysafety operating policies and procedures to effectively complete work assignments.Ensures project compliance with regulatory bodies including spill response, environmental air monitoring and environmental compliance reporting.Conducts daily coordination meetings, and weekly progress meetings, and prepares weekly summary progress report for significant construction projects.
  • Manages construction contracts and negotiates change orders for work changes in the scope of work. Maintains a daily log of the contractor’s construction activities and prepares a weekly activity report of construction progress. Maintains and reviews project budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinates the project activities with other projects, planned outages, and plant operations and maintenance departments. Negotiates critical issues with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success. Drives and assures transactions are appropriately fed through the internal evaluation and approval process (structuring/pricing, accounting, legal, and senior management).
  • Perform any additional responsibilities, represent, and promote Company programs, products, and services within the community and participate in special projects as requested or assigned.

Requirements

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school.
  • Five years of generating facility or renewable construction management experience, with two years in a senior technical/leadership role in industrial power systems or electric utility power system operations, construction, development or renewable industry related experience; including experience performing highly technical work of a specialized nature with exposure to business/financial and contractual matters.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of renewable energy industry including financial analysis, contracts and technologies
  • Willingness to travel to various sites; at least 50% of job duties will be performed at development or construction sites.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Effective organization, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Planning and budgeting skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues, tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Knowledge of relevant policy, procedures, laws, and regulations related to construction activities, with the ability to analyze and evaluate complex proposals and submit written comments.
  • Advanced project management skills with the ability to act as a team leader, enforce contracts, and maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • The demonstrated ability to lead projects and work with others effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Advanced computer skills including competency with spreadsheets, word processors, presentation tools or a demonstrated ability to learn such skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate complex information accurately and understandably in written and verbal form.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a customer service focus, and the ability to work both independently or as a member in a team-oriented environment and to recognize when collaboration with or input from others is necessary.This includes the ability to provide instruction, guidance, and information to others.
  • Ability to read and interpret contracts and complex technical documents.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; ability to analyze complex issues and formulate a strategic plan.
  • Ability to travel overnight as required.

 

Physical Demands/WorkEnvironment

  • Position is primarily based and located in Great Falls, MT and at generation facilities located in Ethridge, Montana, and with travel required to company offices in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Calgary, Alberta Canada.
  • Office and fieldwork required.
  • Required to work indoors in an office setting for extended periods of time, and outdoors at construction sites.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including cold temperatures, snow, rain, and heat.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and/or moving items up to 35 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to climb a wind turbine generator and follow boundary limits and required safety PPE when working around high voltage electrical equipment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a valid passport.
