The Rapid is hiring Finance Summer Intern!

We serve the following communities: Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Grandville, Kentwood, Walker, and Wyoming. Are you an undergraduate student with a knack for financial analysis and accounting? The Rapid is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Finance Intern for the summer. In this internship, you will work on a variety of tasks including assisting with reports, creating, and maintaining spreadsheets, and performing account reconciliations. As an intern with The Rapid, you will have the chance to contribute to meaningful projects, develop essential financial skills, and gain hands-on experience in the public transportation industry.

Duration: Summer 2024 Compensation: $17.00 per hour

Position Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited 2 or 4-year university program majoring in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
• Prior experience working with auditing preferred.
• Computer skills: Mid-level to advanced computer and software skills, primarily in applications included in the Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn new and or proprietary systems is required.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly reports to support needs of various departments.
• Create maintain spreadsheets to monitor expenses, budgets, and forecasts across the organization.
• Create ad hoc reports, spreadsheets, and pivot tables.
• Assist with year end and annual single audit procedures.
• Monitor and keep track of debits and credits on various accounts.
• Assist with adjusting journal entries and account analysis during annual single audit.
• Perform account reconciliations of general ledger and grants ledger and report variances.
• Assist with documenting, improving, and monitoring internal controls.
• Other duties as requested.

Physical Demands:

Intern must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds for movement of boxes, files, or other items. May also include frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, and pulling. Intern is required to perform job duties in accordance with existing health and safety procedures and policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods. The employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Use of hands and arms is necessary to reach or use various tools or objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
