Position Overview:

The LTL (Less Than Truckload) Driver Manager plays a pivotal role in the transportation and logistics industry, overseeing the operations of our fleet of drivers while actively participating in driving duties. This position requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and combines managerial responsibilities with hands-on driving tasks.

Key Driver Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate company vehicles to pick up and deliver LTL shipments in accordance with established routes and schedules.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety and compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Load and unload freight with precision, ensuring the secure transportation of goods.
  • Provide excellent customer service by maintaining professional and courteous interactions with clients during pick-ups and deliveries.
  • Utilize electronic logging devices and other technology to track and document shipments accurately.
  • Collaborate with dispatch and other team members to optimize delivery routes and ensure on-time performance.
  • Adhere to all transportation and safety regulations, including but not limited to DOT guidelines.

Key Management Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule daily routes for LTL drivers, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of freight.
  • Assign pickups and deliveries, optimizing routes to minimize fuel consumption and maximize productivity.
  • Monitor driver performance, providing feedback, coaching, and training as necessary to maintain high standards of safety and efficiency.
  • Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs, liaising with mechanics and service providers to minimize downtime and keep the fleet operational.
  • Manage fuel usage and vehicle maintenance costs, identifying opportunities for cost-saving initiatives.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and service issues promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with the customer service team to resolve delivery discrepancies and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to transportation and safety standards.
  • Ensure that all drivers adhere to regulatory requirements, including hours-of-service regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) guidelines, and vehicle weight restrictions.
  • Maintain accurate records of driver logs, vehicle inspections, and delivery documentation.
  • Prepare reports on driver performance, fleet utilization, and operational metrics for management review.
  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new drivers, conducting interviews and providing training as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • Class A CDL license with Tanker, Hazmat, Doubles / Triples endorsement Preferred.
  • Previous experience in LTL pick-up and delivery is preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle physical demands of loading and unloading freight.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
