Salary/Position Classification

  • $47,000 Dependent on Experience, Annual, Exempt

Purpose of Position

To support students on the continuum between being a pre-medical or pre-health profession student to a practicing professional. This role supports the expanded graduate and professional student population at INMED by supplementing current staff effort and taking responsibility for a share of the student recruitment and applicant support, academic advising, program development, and data collection and reporting efforts of INMED. The incumbent will be in regular communication with the graduate and professional students in the INMED program.

Duties & Responsibilities

Academic and professional advising for INMED students in graduate and/or professional degree programs:

  • Develop peer and faculty tutor or mentor programming
  • Work closely with at-risk students to develop individualized plans for success, organize INMED and SMHS resources to support their success
  • Support student writing activities (CVs, personal statements, articles and presentations)
  • Advise and mentor PhD students through the dissertation writing process
  • Gain familiarity with pre-health advising strategies and support INMED undergraduate students as they pursue their degrees.
  • Locate and share information with students regarding upcoming poster presentations, research conferences, faculty contacts seeking research associates, etc.
  • Support the INMED College Coordinator in the recruitment and supervision of temporary program staff, including Med Prep Instructors and tutors. Learn about and, as a backup to administrative staff, be able to perform the HR and payroll processes associated with hiring and maintaining those staff
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs focused on student success 

Support student-focused programming:

  • Support and assist in the planning and execution of “CLIMB” program for MD students
  • Develop, plan, and implement onboarding and other “pre-matriculation” programs for various health professions degree programs that support the success of INMED students

Relationship development and engagement with Alumni, stakeholder, and students:

  • Support the data entry, tracking, and updating efforts in online database
  • Become familiar with information regarding and eventually assume responsibility for website alumni update widget, respond to submissions and engage with individuals
  • Support the development and production of content including images, articles, feature stories, summaries, updates, and other media for newsletters, social media, website, gatherings, and other opportunities
  • Plan, develop, and supervise events including “program visit” days for INMED-affiliated degree programs
  • Create and execute events and opportunities that attract and engage students from all health professions programs and work closely with relevant faculty and administration to continue the expansion of INMED’s student population and breadth of programs in which they are enrolled
  • Meet regularly with degree program faculty and administration to understand their wants and needs, provide education and support for programs looking to increase the recruitment, retention, and graduation of AI/AN students into the health professions 

Admissions Support and strategic planning:

  • Become familiar with and participate in the MD Admissions process for the INMED applicant pool by coordinating prospective student identification with the INMED college counselor and their counterparts at various institutions nationwide. Guide applicants through the process and provide mock interviews, personal statement feedback, application review, clarification on documentation and content questions, and serve as a support to applicants and admitted students throughout the admissions cycle
  • Coordinate with Academic Advisor to produce and curate the “Admitted Students” newsletter each year and “Second Look Day” during annual Time Out Week
  • Work with INMED administrator to understand budgetary and financial information regarding programmatic offerings
  • In concert with specific department administration and leadership, develop similar processes for INMED degree programs beyond MD. 
  • Work with SMHS Alumni and Community Relations Offices' recruiter to coordinate efforts and obtain sustainable admissions cycle deliverables
  • Become familiar with and learn to access the AMCAS Medical Minority Applicant Registry (Med-MAR) MCAT reporting tool and support College Coordinator’s efforts to recruit and retain prospective AI/AN MD candidates

Required Competencies

  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written
  • Interest in seeking out and leveraging disparate resources, opportunities, and ideas to promote the success of INMED students

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health profession, biomedical or other lab sciences, academic/education/ public administration, or other relevant field
  • Two years’ experience working in program and academic development with students from historically under-served and/or underrepresented populations
  • Two years’ experience in academic and student support services at an institution of higher education or a health/care administration and delivery
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Graduate degree in a health profession, biomedical or laboratory science, or academic/education/public administration
  2. Two years’ experience working directly with students in historically underserved and/or underrepresented populations in a healthcare profession or other academic and student support services capacity
  3. Experience supporting the data collection, tracking, reporting, and renewal process associated with grant awards, or understanding of the grants cycle and administration process
  4. Experience working with students or as a student at the graduate or professional level
