Job description

Previous managerial / supervisory experience REQUIRED

Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of this job position is to prepare meals in accordance with the established food service department policies and procedures.

Supervision of Dietary Assistants and Cooks Current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern Long-Term Care Facilities must be adhered to at all times to assure that the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents.

Delegation of Authority

As the Supervisor your direct supervisor is the Food Service Director or Food Service Manager. You are responsible to assist the Food Service Director and Food Service Manager in supervising other Food Service personnel.

Job Functions

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Ensure the food service production occurs according to established schedules and guidelines.

2. Assist with ordering and maintaining par level food inventory according to established budgetary guidelines.

3. Plate all meals from steam tables following facility policy and procedure for presentation and portion control.

4. Assist in developing, reviewing, and revising 4-week cycle plan menus as needed.

5. Supervising meal service and monitoring / resolve resident requests and complaints. Ensure that foods’ taste and smell are palatable.

6. Responsible for the supervision of all dietary staff on shift

7. Assist with monitoring all equipment care and sanitation; ensure that equipment is safe and in correct working order at all times.

8. Assure that all established food service safety regulations, including fire protection / prevention, smoking regulations, infection control, etc, are followed.

9. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement / Performance Improvement Programs and committees as required.

10. Attend all in-service training with a focus on OSHA, resident rights, disaster prevention, etc.

11. Assure that the residents’ rights are maintained at all times by departmental personnel.

12. Assure the maintenance of resident confidentiality according to facility policy and HIPAA guidelines.

13. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the facility.

14. Maintain a good rapport and act as liaison with families and residents.

15. Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep abreast of changes in profession.

16. Attend required in-services regarding various topics and Corporate Compliance.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Works in well-lighted / ventilated areas.

Subject to frequent interruptions

Communicates with the medical and nursing staff, and with residents and families.

This position involves tasks which may result in exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, or to supplies or equipment contaminated with blood, body fluids, or tissues.

The following list includes but is not limited to those tasks during which you are likely to come into contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues :

Performing any task in the room of residents who are spraying blood or body fluids, e.g., coughing and expectorating secretions.

PHYSICAL AND SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to sit, stand, bend, squat, kneel, reach and walk frequently (30-60% of the time) during working hours.

Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position,

Must possess sight / hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable senses to function adequately so that the requirement of this position can be fully met.

Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, support agencies and co-workers,

Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and, at times, hostile people within the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES :

EDUCATION

Must possess a High School Education or GED.

EXPERIENCE

Must have prior experience in a food service or as a cook

Must have knowledge of Food Service regulations and practices and procedures

Supervisory skills and problem solving capabilities preferred
