SummaryThe School Psychologist is dedicated to supporting student learning by meeting the needs of the whole child. The School Psychologist performs comprehensive diagnostic psychological evaluations and assessments necessary to determine student eligibility for gifted and special education programs. These assessments include tests of cognitive abilities; achievement; social, emotional, and behavioral functioning; adaptive skills; memory; and executive functioning. Extensive consultation with parents and professional staff regarding the identification of student needs and implementation of appropriate interventions is required. School Psychologists are important members of school-based teams dedicated to improving the educational and developmental outcomes of all students.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive, multidisciplinary evaluations that include research-based recommendations for intervention support.
  • Coordinate and participate in multidisciplinary evaluation meetings
  • Work cooperatively with the Director of Student Services and all members of the administrative team.
  • Consults with IEP teams regarding the mandated reevaluation process for all identified students and conduct additional assessments as necessary.
  • Assists in post-intervention activities related to sudden death or suicide as directed by the Director of Student Services or designee.
  • Conduct and interpret screening and assessments as necessary to determine student need for further evaluation. Conduct written screening reports, and review with MTSS teams and parents.
  • Lead and consult with functional behavioral assessments for initial evaluations, and collaborate with staff on re-evaluations with functional behavioral assessments with staff conducting functional behavioral assessments and creating behavioral support plans.
  • Lead the utilization of functional behavioral assessment data with teams in creating effective positive behavioral support plans.
  • Promote equitable opportunities for students with diverse needs.
  • Assist and Facilitate the development of School-Wide Positive Behavioral Support teams, including consultation in the development of school-wide practices to promote learning, social development, and mental health.
  • Provide a detailed written report of the student's level of academic, intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning which includes specific recommendations for intervention support as necessary.
  • Interpret assessment results for parents and appropriate school district personnel, which includes outside evaluation reports.
  • Provide parent knowledge groups to assist with child development
  • Provide ongoing professional development to staff and administration annually, which includes crisis team training for all buildings K-12.
  • Provide direct psychological services for individual and group counseling as specified in IEPs and temporarily until community services can be arranged.
  • Facilitate and participate in student support meetings in the schools (e.g., MTSS, SWPBSP, SAP, and PST).
  • Assist with procedures and implementation of student support meetings in the schools (e.g., MTSS, SAP, PST)
  • Assist and consult with teachers as needed in the development of individual educational programs (IEP and GIEP) for identified students.
  • Consult with staff and administration about behavior, curriculum, and programming as necessary
  • Assist intervention specialists K-12 with curriculum and intervention design
  • Consult around appropriate progress monitoring for students with IEPs.
  • Participate in district data management team meetings.
  • Assist in determining the needs of students relative to 504 Service Agreements as necessary.
  • Maintain positive relationships with medical and mental health professionals who provide services to children and families in the Pine-Richland community.
  • Serve as a resource to speak to community groups regarding the role of the school psychologist.
  • Assist with the provision of crisis intervention services when necessary.
  • Assist with Director of Student Services in-service meetings with teachers and administrators as needed.
  • Evaluate and consult regarding preschool students with disabilities to ensure a smooth transition to the public school setting as necessary.
  • Implement the assessment process as required in the early entrance school policy as necessary.
  • Act as the district liaison for services for students in foster care and students experiencing homelessness as necessary.
  • Maintain the highest level of ethical, legal, and professional decision-making.
  • Meet all deadlines as required by state regulations for the identification and reevaluation of students in need of services.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records, as required by law, and ensure that all activities comply with Board policies, rules, and guidelines and all administrative requirements.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with professional and support staff, administration, students, parents, and community groups.
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or their designee.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Supervisory ResponsibilitiesMonitor and provide observations to supervisors about the ability of staff to assess student needs, provide interventions, and implement specially designed instruction to improve student learning.
Education And ExperiencePennsylvania School Psychologist certification required; Doctorate in School Psychology preferred. Three years experience working as a School Psychologist is preferred. Experience with functional behavioral assessments, positive behavioral support plans, and clinical experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSPennsylvania Department of Education-issued certification in School Psychology is required. Child abuse and state and federal criminal record clearances are required. Licensed Psychologist preferred.
CONFIDENTIALITYDue to the sensitive nature of this position and access to academic, medical, and psychological records, the highest degree of confidentiality is required.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from teachers, administrators, staff, students, parents, and residents.
Computer SkillsProficient with personal computer programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar office programs. Experience in student information systems preferred.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to utilize statistical concepts as they apply to educational measurement and research.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in stressful situations.
OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIESAbility to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the area of special education and school psychology. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
