Community Action Partnerships of Western Nebraska (CAPWN) is a non-profit community-based health and human services organization that serves low-income, disadvantaged and those unable to meet their needs through other sources. The agency was established in 1965 and provides services to over 9,000 individuals, children and families in three main areas:

  • Community Health Services: WIC, Commodity Supplemental Food, Foster Grandparents, Migrant Seasonal Head Start, and Child Development Center.
  • Clinical Health Services: Primary Care, Reproductive Health, Diabetes Management, Immunizations, Migrant Health, Ryan White HIV; Behavioral Health including Counseling Services, Medication Management, Medication Assisted Treatment and Substance Use Counseling and Intensive Outpatient Services and Dental Services.
  • Supportive Health Services: Family Stabilization, a Teen Outreach Program, SOAR, Youth Leadership Program, Youth Shelter and Housing Assistance Programs.

Psychiatric Service Nursing Supervisor
Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM

Job Title
: Psychiatric Services Nursing Supervisor
Reports to: Nurse Manager

Areas of Responsibility
: Supervise the Psychiatric Services nursing and nursing support staff in the delivery of efficient and safe patient outcomes.

Major Duties
:
  • Plays an active role in the delivery of value-based patient care using the provider-led, team-based Patient Centered Medical Home Care Model.
  • Collaborate with providers, nursing and nursing support staff, in the provision of care and services that are “accessible, continuous, comprehensive, evidence-based, family-centered, coordinated, compassionate, and culturally effective.”
  • Facilitates day-to-day management and long-term planning of the nursing team and patient care area.
  • Hires, onboards, directs, mentors, develops, and schedules staff, including communicating job expectations, providing performance reviews, completing timecard reviews, approving time off requests and managing corrective actions.
  • Facilitates the team approach by recognizing each nurse/staff member as an important part of the Psychiatric Services Team, serving as a liaison for the nursing staff by conducting appropriate meetings to communicate policy, planning decisions, operational requirements, and related matters.
  • Provides ongoing advice and consultation to the nursing staff about proper procedures, problem solving and patient safety as well as evaluating the quality and appropriateness of nursing care and documentation of care provided.
  • Helps to ensure excellent patient care for Psychiatric Services patients by determining nursing staff strengths and weaknesses by performing periodic audits of nursing procedures, identifying deficiencies and making improvements.
  • Provides guidance on nursing triage and care for patients through the process of gathering and evaluating the past and present health history, vital signs, and the performing nursing assessment.
  • Works effectively as a team member of the health care team by following the Center’s Infection Control policy, performing all duties in full compliance with the Nursing policies and procedures, demonstrating professionalism and awareness of the issues of confidentiality and demonstrating respect and understanding of the rights and safety of the patient.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
  • Promotes patients’ independence by establishing patient care goals, teaching and counseling patients and family to reinforce their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Provides education in health care and the prevention of illness to the patient and their family.
  • Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; and identifying system improvements.
  • Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, requesting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies, and approving requisitions and cost allocations.
  • Maintains nursing guidelines by providing input on policies and procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing to be in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies to maintain current licensure.

Working Conditions
:
  • Work is frequently stressful and requires meeting tight deadlines.
  • Work in a highly volatile program in a state of change with many interruptions and interactions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is above average.
  • Occasional out of town travel.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires periods of typing and sitting at desk.
  • Fine manipulation of hands with repetitive action.
  • Operate office machines.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Must regularly talk, hear, and have close vision ability.

Minimum Qualifications
:

Grade: 22
  • RN license for the state of Nebraska.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in general nursing and one year of nursing management experience, preferred.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints.
  • Age 21 or above with a valid Nebraska driver’s license and insured vehicle.
  • Skilled facilitator and problem solver with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented person with demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to complete projects on time with minimal supervision.
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Possess solid business sense and strong communication skills.
  • Must have ability to work independently and to exercise initiative, good judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to operate computer and most office software and equipment.

Grade: 23
  • Must meet minimum qualifications above;
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in general nursing OR two years of Behavioral Health nursing management experience.

Grade: 24
  • Must meet minimum qualifications above;
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience in general nursing and five OR more years of Behavioral Health nursing management experience OR
  • Specialized training in related field.
