K & L Technical Services is Hiring a Low Voltage Technician Near Gary, IN

The Regional Field Service Technician provides support for K & L Technical Services teams by completing work in the field at customer sites. The role is responsible for assuring all facets of field operations are executed safely and in the prescribed amount of time in accordance with the scope of work. The Field Technician has the opportunity to work on multiple projects for a variety of clients and serves as the face of K & L Technical Services in the field.

Types of Work: Low Voltage Wiring/Repair for Data/Voice/CCTV/Audio-Visual and related device installation. Typical days include multiple break/fix, MAC (Moves Adds Changes), Service tickets. The work will take place in commercial and retail type environments.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with customers
  • Ensure all scheduled appointments are kept
  • Ensure that all assigned work is completed safely and to industry specifications
  • Completion of client and company checklists, photos, and test results typically communicated to management electronically within 24 hours of completion
  • Keep the Project Managers apprised of job progress and/or problems on a regular basis
  • Provide after-hours or emergency service on an as needed basis
  • Complete surveys & quality audits as needed
  • Adhere to existing company policies, standards and controls

Required Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working independently in the field
  • In-depth experience with cabling infrastructure installation, termination and testing to include but not limited to:
  • Copper Category 3, 5e, 6, 6a, 7 shielded in both horizontal and backbone applications
  • 18/2 twisted pair
  • Floor mount/wall mount racks/cabinets
  • Proper grounding applications
  • Experience installing and servicing a variety of telephone, PBX and key systems
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting and servicing of the following areas: POS, CCTV, video monitoring, security systems, computer and low voltage cabling equipment
  • Knowledge of high speed circuits, routers, switches and modems
  • Knowledge of Cisco and Adtran high speed circuits, routers and switches
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Some combination of the following experience:
  • Ability to login to network equipment via a GUI or command line using PuTTY or similar terminal emulator
  • Knowledge of IP subnetting
  • Knowledge of Fiber Optics
  • Knowledge of wireless networking, specifically Ekahau, AirMagnet or similar tools

Preferred Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to properly use basic hand tools, power tools, and testing tools for the installation and testing of voice and network equipment to include but not limited to:
  • Firewalls, routers, switches: General Knowledge and identification skills
  • Inside Structured Wiring; installation of copper and/or fiber cabling and terminations.
  • Basic knowledge of voice/key systems, Experience with POTS/Analog phone lines.
  • Video security cameras, DVRs, and NVRs
  • VoIP
  • Intermediate MS Office computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to give and receive clear direction from multiple sources.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, present information, and respond to managers, employees, customers, and vendors in an intelligent, clear, concise, professional and grammatically correct
  • Ability to establish and retain customer confidence

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
