POSITION: High School Principal

SALARY: As per GAEA Collective Bargaining Agreement & Commensurate with experience

SUPERVISES: All High School Staff

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

Galesburg-Augusta High School is a small school with a strong family feel. Our enrollment averages 330 students and approximately 35 staff. Our families appreciate the level to which our teachers and staff get to know our students and provide individual support. REQUIRED:

  • Proven school leadership experience with demonstrated success driving high performance, raising student achievement, and improving underperforming student achievement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop/sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and keeping abreast of trends, developments, and research as they pertain to education and school operations.
  • Strong curriculum knowledge, including implementing literacy and math strategies. 
  • Proven experience in staff development, formative assessment, Professional Learning Communities, and Response to Intervention processes.
  • Experience with initiatives that support the whole child, Capturing Kids Hearts, PBIS or other
  • Demonstrate successful experience in shared decision making, and program development.
  • Demonstrate successful experience in staff supervision and evaluation, along with exceptional coaching skills for building instructional growth. 
  • Proven leadership in creating an atmosphere where parents and community are engaged partners in the support of student achievement. 
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and counsel students, teachers, and parents in areas of specific concern and need, utilizing all available resources and data in planning applicable solutions.
  • Proven attention to detail along with the development of budgets and other inventory records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree or higher, with course work background in educational administration/leadership.
  • Must hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate.
  • Minimum of four years teaching experience, grades 7-12.
  • Must hold or be eligible for an Administrator’s Certificate.
  • Prefer successful administrative experience 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overall personnel, staff supervision, fiscal, and maintenance administration in the high school building.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsible behavior.
  • Ability to effectively evaluate teachers using the district adopted framework. 
  • Assist teachers in classroom management strategies and provides instructional leadership to all staff.
  • Cast a vision of and monitors for instruction and strategies that address the wide range of learning, behavioral, and communication styles of the student population.
  • Remain current on all mandated curriculum expectations and ensure their implementation within the classroom.
  • Provide leadership in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum.
  • Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the district’s philosophy, mission statement and instructional goals.
  • Determine teaching load and assignment and assist in the recruitment, selection, and placement of teaching staff.
  • Promote a positive school climate and develop collaborative relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Maintain visibility with students, teachers, parents, and the district.
  • Participate in school academic, athletic, and co-curricular activities to supervise and advocate for the school.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, to create a cooperative relationship to support the student in school and in the home.
  • Provide for the health, safety and welfare of students, teachers, and other employees.
  • Other duties might be assigned.
