We are seeking a dedicated Substance Use Prevention Specialist to join our dynamic team and help us tackle these critical issues head-on. At Hanley Foundation, a non-profit organization with a mission of eliminating addiction through prevention, advocacy, and recovery support, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing effective prevention programs and initiatives. Through education, community outreach, and collaboration with community partners, we strive to support those affected by substance use disorder and empower individuals to lead healthy lives. Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers and/or facilitators to deliver approved substance use prevention curricula to schools and other agencies. This delivery may involve group, individual classroom, assembly facilitation, observations, monitoring, and direct implementation including preparation and delivery of materials.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings and report progress as well as areas of concern.
  • Participate in Community Coalition meetings and task force committees as appropriate.
  • Recruit and secure school and community implementation locations.
  • Secure training sites for approved programs.
  • Market and promote programs to all schools as requested by the supervisor.
  • Collaborates with supervisor and department staff and communicates issues and critical information.
  • Provide parent education on alcohol and other drugs when requested.
  • Provide in-services on alcohol and other drugs to faculty or agency staff when requested.
  • Provide appropriate community resources (i.e., substance use information, etc.) to requesting schools and partners.
  • Identifies, communicates, and implements improvements in work situations, as needed.
  • Meet or exceed all grant goals.
  • Complete monitoring reports (i.e., DCF) as indicated by grant requirements.
  • Complete all documentation and PBPS/CPG entries daily and submit them to the supervisor weekly.
  • Demonstrate success through documentation of satisfaction surveys, training evaluations, and observations.
  • Maintains knowledge of prevention disciplines, trends, and best practices.
  • Performs any additional duties requested by executive staff.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills, including interactive public speaking and active listening skills.
  • Effective advocate of Hanley Foundation and its programs.
  • Able to promote services in the community and refer media opportunities such as radio, print, and television, to the appropriate Hanley Foundation staff member.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, its network components, and general computer use.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent judgment.
  • Team player, with the ability to also be effective independently.

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in human services, education, or a related field is required.
  • Completion of Level 1 and 2 background screenings.
  • Completion of relevant training, upon hire and when deemed appropriate.
  • A minimum of 1 year working with adolescents, preferably in a school or public health setting, preferred.
  • Must be able to work early morning, evening, and weekend hours as required.
  • Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) or Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Applicants who are currently in recovery from past substance use issues must be successfully rehabilitated and no longer engaging in the use of illegal substances to be eligible for this position. Hanley Foundation requires applicants in recovery to have had at least one year of uninterrupted sobriety to meet this eligibility standard. .

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to travel and deliver public presentations that can be both lengthy and in multiple sessions.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
