The Arts are a key component of our mission, and in advancing that mission, we are seeking a passionate Art Educator to lead our Lower School program, with an emphasis on nurturing students' appreciation of art, developing artistic skills and a basic understanding of artistic concepts, and instilling a joy for artistic expression.

A bachelor’s degree in Art, Education, or related artistic or educational field is required, with a master's degree preferred. Art educators with the ability and desire to inspire and engage students with enthusiasm and creativity, and who embrace the concept of whole-child education in a mission-driven, nurturing environment, are highly encouraged to apply. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2nd, 2024.Key Responsibilities
  • Support the mission of Oak Hall School
  • Plan and creatively teach students how to express themselves through art, with developmentally appropriate lessons in multiple modes (e.g., clay, drawing, painting, printmaking, fiber arts, collage, and photography)
  • Incorporate art history into the program
  • Create an environment that fosters creativity and allows students to behave as practicing artists who envision, express, observe, persist, develop craft, explore, reflect, and understand art
  • Foster a vision of art that supports the mission of the school
  • Promote a positive classroom environment and demonstrate strong classroom management skills to create and maintain a learning environment that ensures high levels of learning for all students
  • Provide active and engaging hands-on experiences as part of the curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with the other Fine Arts Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, share resources, and develop opportunities to showcase collaborative Fine Arts efforts
  • Develop and execute a distinctive event to showcase art for Lower School students, annually
  • Work collaboratively with the Lower School Music team to create sets, backdrops, and props, including student made art, for Lower School musicals and for the OneSchool Musical
  • Be familiar with various technologies such as iPads to teach technology-inspired lessons such as iPad drawing and stop motion animation
  • Utilize project based learning
  • Assess and document each students performance/progress to meet the School's standards, and provide feedback to students and their parents, as needed
  • Be an active member of, and work collaboratively with, the Lower School team, the Fine Arts Department, and the greater Oak Hall community
  • Serve as a mentor and advocate for your students
  • Be a role model of integrity and professionalism
  • Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements, including attending division and other school meetings, professional days, and other required events.
  • Adhere to School policies as described in the Employee Handbook and other materials
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications And Attributes
  • Bachelors degree in Art or Art Education, required
  • Masters Degree, preferred
  • Three years of experience as an Art teacher in similar position, preferred
  • Knowledge of and practice in current art education and innovative approaches to teaching art
  • Possess a working knowledge of traditional and contemporary modes of art making
  • Ability and willingness to assist with set, backdrop, and prop design and creation for musicals
  • Be comfortable and adept with the effective use of technology in the learning process
  • Knowledge and understanding of various learning styles and differentiated instruction
  • Ability to inspire, engage, empower, and educate and evaluate students with vigor and creativity
  • A history of commitment to professional development and life-long learning
  • The ability to work positively and professionally with students, parents and faculty
  • A high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of school
  • Ability, willingness, and judgment to communicate thoroughly, accurately, and concisely with all constituents in a school environment, both verbally and in writing
