Position summary:

STERN Co. is looking for a dispatcher who will coordinate and plan daily loads and communicate with drivers. This person will be responsible for planning a fleet of trucks/drivers to ensure optimum productivity, service levels, and revenue. Must be used to working in a fast-paced and changing environment and be available to field calls as needed occasionally on evenings and weekends. Must be a problem solver and enjoy working with deadlines. Successful candidates will be proficient in geography, multitasking, and strong communication skills. Once the candidate is trained, the team member has flexibility to work partially remote if desired.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with drivers, customers, and sales staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and licensing requirements governing freight transportation, including safety standards and documentation. 
  • Answer phone and communicate via email in a professional manner.
  • Resolve delivery-related issues promptly and professionally, ensuring high levels or customer satisfaction.
  • Determine the most efficient and cost-effective routes considering factors such as distance, product supply, and delivery schedules.
  • Proactively identify potential issues or obstacles in the transportation process and assist with implementing effective solutions to minimize disruptions and ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operation flow, addressing, and resolving any logistical challenges that arise.
  • Perform supervisory functions over transportation specialists including accident reviews, performance evaluations, and identification and implementation of training needs.

 Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in transportation functions; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in managing telematic software such as Samsara.
  • Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and PHMSA transportation regulations.
  • Knowledge in the storage, handling, and transport of hazardous materials; experience in hazmat certifications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • PC literate to include Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word)
