Substance Abuse Counselor (Substance Abuse Treatment)

*$1,500 sign-on Bonus included with this position!*

Location: Mid-State Correctional Facility
8401 Range Road

Fort Dix, New Jersey

Position Type: Full Time (40 hours)

Work Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday. Tues- Fri 12:30pm - 9:00pm and Sat - 7:30am - 4:00pm

  • $3 Shift differential included for hours between 12:30-9pm on top of base hourly rate

Overview: Under direct supervision, provides support, intervention, advice, and conflict resolution during substance use disorder treatment to encourage clients through difficult phases of recovery by basic didactic group and individual counseling. Under direct supervision, carries a case load of several clients. Maintains clinical documentation. Performs office administrative duties.

3 Levels of care provided at this facility:

  • Long-term, Intensive Outpatient Program, and Outpatient

Substance Abuse Counselors are responsible for:

  • Completing comprehensive assessment of clients’ substance use disorder history and prepares individualized developmentally appropriate treatment plan.
  • Providing individual and group counseling, and educational programs in accordance with treatment plan. Documents treatment and discharge plans, and clients’ progress and responses to treatments; and maintains related records and charts
  • Performing case management and contributes to client care monitoring
  • Duties vary by location or site assigned

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED required; Associates Degree desired including or supplemented by (30) semester hour credits in social work, sociology, health, nursing, psychology, rehabilitation, or counseling, or any combination
  • Must have at least six (6) months previous clinical experience in the substance abuse treatment field
  • Must obtain NJDOC clearance
  • Experience in a corrections environment a plus

If you have also previously worked as a Substance Use Counselor, SUD Counselor, Addiction Counselor, Mental Health Counselor, Mental Health Technician, Behavioral Health Technician, Recovery Coach, Peer Support Specialist, or similar roles, you are encouraged to apply!
