Description

Purpose:

The Budget Director is responsible for managing budgets and collaborating to develop all school and Network budgets within Colorado Early Colleges (CEC). Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Budget Director plays a critical role in formulating budgetary policies, allocating resources, and ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial acumen, analytical skills, and leadership abilities. 

Responsibilities: 

Budget Planning and Development: 

  • Implement comprehensive budget plans, forecasts, and financial strategies in alignment with CEC goals and objectives. 
  • Collaborate with executive leaders, finance team and Heads of School to establish budgetary priorities, goals, and targets. 

Budget Monitoring and Control: 

  • Monitor budget performance of Business Managers and financial metrics to track expenditures, revenue projections, and variances. 
  • Implement budget controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal guidelines. 

Leadership of Business Managers: 

  • Oversee and provide leadership to all Business Managers within CEC, ensuring alignment with financial goals and objectives. 
  • Mentor and support Business Managers in their roles, providing guidance, feedback, and development opportunities to enhance their performance and capabilities. 
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and Payroll regarding Business Manager performance and tasks.
  • Responsible for hiring, performance management, evaluation and training of the Business Managers. 
  • Oversees daily operational tasks of Business Managers and ensure they adhere to processes and procedures.

Financial Analysis and Reporting: 

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, such as forecasts and multi year budgets to support decision-making and strategic planning. 
  • Provide insights and recommendations to Chief Financial Officer based on financial trends, performance indicators, and budgetary implications. 
  • Maintain Network reforecast and budgets and collaborate with Network department leaders.
  • Allocate resources effectively and efficiently to support operational needs and strategic initiatives. 

Collaboration with CFO: 

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks that could impact budgetary stability and organizational performance. 
  • Develop contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies to address unforeseen events or changes in economic conditions. 

Training and Development: 

  • Provide training and guidance to Business Managers, Heads of School, and other leaders on budgeting principles, procedures, and best practices. 
  • Foster a culture of financial literacy and accountability across the organization. 

Grants/Philanthropy:  

  • Oversee state, local, federal grants and the grant department. 
  • Ensure grants are included in budgets and communicate to stakeholders efficiently. 
  • Confirm grant reporting is in compliance with CEC, authorizer, and 3rd parties from a financial standpoint.
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy team to facilitate a smooth grant transition with the grant team.

Qualifications


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred). 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or equivalent professional certification preferred. 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in budgeting, financial planning, or related roles, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility. 
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting principles, practices, and techniques, including financial analysis, forecasting, and risk management. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities. 
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, such as budgeting software, spreadsheets, and financial modeling applications.
