Job Summary:
Plans curriculum, classroom schedule, and prepares lessons/plans and other instructional materials to meet individual need of students, considering state and school requirements, physical, emotional, and education levels of development by performing the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
Work Days / Hours:
Monday-Friday 7:30 AM-4:00 PM
Required Knowledge, Skills & Education:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Tennessee Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements. Valid state teacher’s license.
This position requires the staff person to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneed, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear. The staff person must also be able to occasionally lift and/or move 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities are required for this position due to the supervision that includes close, distant and peripheral vision, color and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Also, as a job requirement, the staff person must be able to perform a physical restraint on a student using the authorized technique designated by the program and only as a last resort for the protection and hard to self or others.
The students in this program are termed “At Risk” youth who have been
exposed to either the legal or social service system. During the performance of one’s duties, a staff person may be asked inappropriate questions, displays of socially in appropriate behaviors, the use of profanity and sexually explicit language. These students may have a history of violent or assaultive behaviors that could be demonstrated during their stay here. Staff persons may be exposed to racial slurs, derogatory comments, sexually suggestive phrases or threats of physical hard from students toward either staff or their families. There will be occasions when staff will be exposed to the elements of nature and may be expected to provide occasional transportation as required by program needs.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. An individual must be able to perform their duties in a positive work mode and serve as a positive role model and influence for youth and peers.
