Fond du Lac County is Hiring a Patrol deputy Near Fond du Lac, WI

Description

Under the general direction of a Patrol Sergeant / Shift Commander. Ensures adequate patrol coverage is maintained and provides an effective delivery of law enforcement services for his / her assigned area of responsibility.

Enforces federal, state and county laws and ordinances in a fair and impartial manner. Responsible for the enforcement of laws relating to the use of highways, maintenance of order upon or near the highways and provision of general police protection for the community at large.

Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations on felony and misdemeanor offenses discovered through the performance of assigned duties.

This position is also eligible for lateral transfer.

This recruitment, applications are being accepted for the position of Patrol Deputy. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a continuous recruitment process.*

Examples of Duties

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Serves as patrol deputy on an assigned shift.
  • Responds to and conducts felony, misdemeanor, accident and ordinance investigations; making arrest and issuing citations where appropriate.
  • Provides effective delivery of law enforcement services for his / her assigned area.
  • Provides emergency medical aid and fire department assistance.
  • Ensures accurate preparation and timely submission of all reports for incidents and investigations.
  • Collect and preserve evidence in accordance with prescribed procedures.
  • Provide clear and accurate court testimony.
  • Attend all required training and maintain technical equipment certifications.
  • Exhibit acceptable skill levels in the operation and care of department vehicles and equipment, in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Exhibit an acceptable skill level in the use and care of firearms.
  • Exhibit an acceptable level of mental and physical conditioning to meet the demand of potentially stressful, hazardous and dangerous situations.
  • When unsupervised, perform independently under emergency conditions, analyzing situations rapidly and objectively to attain a fair and impartial resolution while remaining courteous and tactful, if possible.
  • Completes special projects and assignments when requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Qualifications :

  • Possession of High School Diploma / GED
  • Free from any physical, emotional or mental conditions, which might adversely affect performance of duties as a law enforcement office.
  • No more than a 20 decibel hearing loss; or hearing loss correctable to 20 decibels or less; in either ear at 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 hertz.
  • Minimum uncorrected vision of 20 / 100 in each eye. Vision must be correctable to 20 / 20. Weak eye corrected vision can be 20 / 30, with binocular vision of 20 / 20.
  • Minimum 60 college credits with a preference for Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Law Enforcement Standards Board Basic Law Enforcement Certification / Certifiable / or currently enrolled in a Law Enforcement Recruit Academy
  • Previous experience in law enforcement or a related field preferred

In evaluating candidates for this position, the County may consider criminal history, a combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Supplemental Information

New wages are effective 5 / 26 / 2024. The new schedule will go into effect July 7, 2024. The schedule will be either 10 hour or 12 hour shifts based on seniority.
