About the Role

The EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) Manager provides environmental, safety, and health support to production and corporate personnel. The EHS Manager assists in maintaining environmental, safety, and health programs and objectives and coordinates safety training programs. In addition, they will monitor environmental, safety, and health regulations and provide technical support to plant and administrative staff to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines. The EHS Manager develops, implements and maintains ISO14001/45001 facility certification.

What You Will Do

  • Provides EHS support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, occupational safety, and health regulations.
  • Prepares and updates written safety, health, and environmental programs and policies as well as generating applicable metrics.
  • Permit to work (PTW) expert supporting site for JHA/JSA, risk assessments, PPE matrix, and auditing permit paperwork for compliance.
  • Promotes environmental, safety, and health awareness through internal company communications and specific training programs.
  • Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize environmental, safety, and occupational health hazards.
  • Supports facility compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The environmental regulations pertain to, but are not limited to, the following aspects: solid waste, hazardous waste, petroleum storage, material releases, storm water, air releases, wastewater, community right-to-know, any site-specific regulations from local ordinances, etc.
  • Reviews injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary. Meets with management monthly to review any injuries, identify any trends, recommend countermeasures, and supports action plans.
  • Supports production areas submittals of SDS (safety data sheets) electronically on a database that supports the site's compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Uses ergonomic guidelines to address current manufacturing injury concerns and future model planning.

What You Need

  • A bachelor's degree in safety science, engineering or industrial engineering discipline preferred.
  • A minimum of two-five years of experience supporting safety, health, and environmental operations in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of State and Federal safety standards. A working knowledge of the company manufacturing processes.
  • Able to work cross-functionally with staff in Operations, Maintenance, Logistics, Engineering, and Quality.
  • Life Safety Design - Familiar with IBC/IFC/NFPA101 for life safety design requirements.
  • Title V Air Permit - compliance/conditions (e.g., CFC inventory logs, RICE MACT generator data logs, chemical tracking)
  • RCRA - compliance with hazardous waste regulations pertaining to Large Quantity Generators (LQGs) and management of hazardous waste tank systems.
  • EPCRA - compliance with reporting requirements for industrial facilities (e.g., Tier 2 Report, Toxic Release Inventory Reports)
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (Training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO12001 environmental standards. (Training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)

What is "Nice to Have"?

  • Experience or familiarity with the dynamics of start-up environments, showcasing an ability to thrive in agile and fast-paced settings.
  • Knowledge of battery manufacturing, EV manufacturing, or refinery operations is a plus.
  • Previous experience working in cross-cultural environments, or a demonstrated understanding of cultural nuances would be beneficial, given our global presence and diverse team.

Travel

Up to 35% domestic and international travel required.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic. The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers.
