The Family Health Care Center at SSTAR is a community health center in southeastern Massachusetts serving a diverse population of mostly low-income patients. We offer integrated primary care and behavioral health services. This includes primary care, chronic disease management, mental health counseling, psychiatry, office-based addiction treatment, substance abuse counseling, nutrition, HIV/STD/Hepatitis C management, complex care case management, and a variety of support services. The overall SSTAR program also includes an inpatient substance abuse treatment facility, outpatient behavioral health clinic, and walk-in Opioid Triage Center. We are using NextGen as our electronic medical record throughout the organization.
Our main clinic site is at 400 Stanley Street, with two smaller satellite clinics at 1010 South Main Street and 75 Weaver Street, all in Fall River, MA.
SSTAR shares a Federally Qualified Health Center designation with HealthFirst in Fall River.
Primary Care:
Our primary care physicians practice within a Patient Centered Medical Home model. Our emphasis is on the breadth of Family Medicine. Physicians have assigned patient panels that are capped at 1500 patients. Our current need is for those who are board eligible or board certified in Family Medicine.
Hours at our main site are Monday through Thursday 8:30a-6:30p and Friday 8:30a-4:30p.
Hours at our satellite sites are Monday through Friday 8:30a-4:30p
Hospital and Call:
Emergency room and inpatient care is generally at Charlton Memorial Hospital (Southcoast) or St. Anne’s Hospital (Steward). Both hospitals provide 24/7 hospitalist coverage.
On call responsibility is approximately 1 week in 8 and is telephone coverage only for patients who call our answering service.

The National Health Services Corps is currently offering a generous loan repayment program for a 2-year commitment ranging from $30,000 to $50,000. Alternatively, there is a state loan repayment program in Massachusetts that will pay up to $25,000 per year in loan repayment up to a total of $75,000, for physicians who practice in a community health center. Final determination of loan repayment awards are made by the NHSC or relevant state agency. Loan repayment is not available to physicians on visas. State-wide workforce development grants often enhance these loan repayment options.
