SUMMARY:

The Radiologic Technologist demonstrates cooperative attitude in accomplishing the common goal of patient care within the department and with other personnel affected by the department of Diagnostic Imaging. The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for carrying out diagnostic tests using digital radiographic units, fixed and portable, including fixed and portable fluoroscopic equipment such as C-arms, and works in tandem with other medical personnel in order to achieve organizational goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Operates Digital Radiography equipment and portable fluoroscopic equipment for the purpose of capturing diagnostic images of a particular segment of the patient’s body.
  • Prepares patients for radiological exams by positioning patient appropriately to obtain diagnostic images per physician’s order.
  • Demonstrates competency in the operation of the digital radiography units, including portable x ray unit, C-arms and DEXA.
  • Must be willing to train in DEXA, and other Imaging Modalities.
  • Performs tube-warm up procedure and detector calibration/QC daily.
  • Minimizes radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, applies shielding for patients and staff as needed, uses appropriate exposure index factors for digital radiography. Follows the ALARA principles at all times.
  • May call for, transfer, position and manage patients independently with a high degree of professional care, tact and courtesy. Transports patients from the ED and back to the department in a safe manner.
  • Ensures the safety of the patient at all times while in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
  • Documents fluoro times for all fluoroscopic procedures using C-Arm and fixed systems.
  • Ensures that patients are comfortable during imaging procedures, explains the exam to the patient and answers patients question.
  • Adjusts exposure techniques for pediatric patients.
  • Wears a radiation monitor at all times while working in the department.
  • Practices good stewardship of the equipment/DR Detector.
  • Maintains sterile surgical technique and complies with isolation precautions as appropriate.
  • Is thoroughly familiar with all departmental routines, scheduling techniques, record keeping and procedures offered. Knows progressions of the departmental workflow and paperwork, including complete submission of exams to the radiologist for interpretation.
  • Understands the use of Meditech, and PACS, InteleConnect and Medhost system.
  • May assist radiologist or staff physicians in administering radiopaque materials for examinations.
  • Assumes responsibility for general departmental neatness and cleanness, including orderly storage of materials.
  • Maintains professional affiliation(s) and certifications for own professional growth and as required by such organizations as to stay current and in compliance.
  • Maintains familiarity with and complies with professional ethics.
  • Rotates within the department to cover call on evenings and weekends (including shift work during the summer months), as required.
  • Participate in committees as assigned.
  • Perform in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulatory agency standards.
  • Perform in accordance with EPH vision, mission and goals.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Performs on-call duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • American Heart Association BLS.

PAY RANGE:

$25.24 - $34.33 per hour, plus $3.00/hr PRN rate
