Job description for Respite Provider

Hours: Part-time/Overnights- 10hrs-36hrs/ week Must be able to work Nights and Weekends 8p-8a and 2p-8p

Overview: RESPITE CARE is a family support service intended to give temporary relief to family caregivers, people who care for a family member or loved one. As a RESPITE CARE PROVIDER, you will share the rewarding experience of helping people in need and their primary caregivers to live happy, productive lives. RESPITE CARE is temporary and may be provided for periods less than 24 hours but is usually between 24-72hrs and can be as long as 30 days. In addition to providing a safe supervised environment, Respite Care Providers work with our clients to help them meet their life goals. Hope Inside Respite Services prides itself on providing high quality care to our clients. We work closely with both our clients and our staff to craft a customized care plan that best meets the needs of the family care givers we serve.

Job Description: Under general supervision, a RESPITE CARE PROVIDER serves as a personal attendant to provide care and supervision of children who have developmental disabilities, including but not limited to autism, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, and epilepsy. As a respite care worker, you will take over the parenting or caretaking responsibilities of the parent or primary care giver of children with special needs. A respite worker performs respite services at Hope Insides Respite Home. While on assignment, respite care providers may be asked to help clients to work toward goals as listed on their program plan or behavior plan. In addition, to performing respite services, respite care givers attend initial training, behavior management training, and bi-weekly progress meetings (all paid). Additionally, respite workers will work closely with the program supervisor to ensure that the clients' needs are properly met.

Job requirements:

· Must be 21 or older.

· Possess and dependable vehicle and Drivers’ License/ registration.

· Must be able to pass a federal and state criminal background check.

· Must have CPR/First Aid certification (or willing to attend in-house CPR training)

· Flu shot (recommended)

· Attend Training on Respite Care and behavior management.

· Provide three references.

Essential Functions:

§ Ensures the personal safety of individuals by providing appropriate, nurturing personal care.

§ Assists assigned individuals with basic tasks necessary for living in a family home setting, Tasks include participating in recreation activities, maintaining appropriate clothing, assisting individuals to go to bed at night, and other activities which are fundamental to daily living.

§ Provides encouragement and praise to support positive behavior.

§ Prepares meals and snacks, cleans up dishes and utensils, may assist with feeding individuals.

§ Maintains clear understanding of rules of the home as well as program rules.

§ As approved by the supervisor, may escort consumer to participate in community activities.

§ If medication is to be administered, follow all agency policies.

§ Maintains confidentiality regarding consumer, his/her family, family activities, and any records pertaining to consumer which become known to the Respite Worker.

§ Maintains alertness to signs of suspected child abuse; follows mandated child abuse reporting laws.

§ Works a schedule which may incorporate providing services to multiple families, including during the evening, on weekends, or in the early morning.

§ Communicates professionally with consumers, guardians, parents, and others encountered in the course of work.

§ Prepares and submits required paperwork to supervisor in a timely manner.

§ Accurately maintains written records or progress notes.

§ Effectively and promptly communicates with supervisor if situations arise for which the employee is unprepared or unsure how to proceed.

§ Immediately consult with supervisor in the event of an unusual occurrence; prepare or supports preparation of Special Incident Reports within 24 hours of occurrence of such an event.

§ Maintains current certification in CPR, First Aid, and any other training as required by Hope Inside Inc.

§ Complies with Hope Inside Inc. Personnel Policies, procedures, and guidelines.

§ Personal mobility and physical abilities to work safely with individuals whose behavior may be dangerous to themselves and others.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $10.00 - $13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 32 per week
