Criminal Justice Specialist

Distinguishing Characteristics: The Criminal Justice Specialist works in concert with the First Judicial District Felony Recovery Court. As an integral team member, this position shares information regarding participants, participates in weekly staff meetings and Court status hearings, provides training to other team members in their discipline, and attends educational workshops as available.

Education: Minimum of a B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field of Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Social Work or Psychology.

· Learning Strategies - Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.

· Monitoring - Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

· Complex Problem Solving- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

· Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. · Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively.

Special Requirements: Thorough knowledge and application of all patient privacy laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule, 42 Code of Federal Regulations Part 2, and Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records Regulation.

Essential Job Duties:

· Receive referrals for the Felony Recovery Court.

· Provide the District Attorney with information on the referrals in order to obtain criminal

histories.

· Explain Felony Recovery Court program to interested offenders.

· Schedule and administer screenings for potential participants.

· Schedule assessments for participants.

· Assist participants with life skills such as time management, job hunting, and budgeting.

· Schedule participants for classes such as “Living Skills.”

· Research employment and community service opportunities for participants.

· Maintain paper and electronic files on participants.

· Attend treatment team meetings.

· Develop, implement, and maintain Felony Recovery Court program.

· Act as liaison between the Court, law enforcement agencies, treatment provider, and community.

· Work with the Felony Recovery Court team to provide creative and cost effective solutions to problems as they arise.

· Review treatment program to ensure accountability and quality of service.

· Collect, review, and evaluate Felony Recovery Court program data.

· Make recommendations to the Felony Recovery Court team for program changes or

enhancements based on evaluation results.

· Prepare written text for Felony Recovery Court manuals, staff job descriptions, operational procedures, community awareness education materials, press releases, and funding requests (including grant applications).

· Prepare the annual budget and any necessary budget amendments.

· Prepare and submit all reports required of Federal and State of Tennessee grant recipients

(monetary and progress).

· Organize and direct planning and problem-solving work sessions for the Felony Recovery Court team.

· Notify Felony Recovery Court team members of training dates and arrange such training.

· Process orders of the Court, log court dates and orders in participant files.

· Ensure community seminars and public service announcements are produced in accordance with goals and objectives.

· Develop a program evaluation tool, track data of Recovery Court participants and initial case management.

· Create Court dockets. · Provide referral information to the District Attorney for an NCIC check and county arrest record.

· Provide applicants who have passed the criminal history check with the referral questionnaire.

· Present initial screening, assessment, and criminal history information to the Recovery Court team.

· Refer to mental health as needed, and alcohol and drug assessment for applicants approved by the Recovery Court team.

· Other duties assigned by Management

Continuing Education & Professional Licensing/Certification Requirements:

Employees are expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by their immediate supervisor. In addition, employee is expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and abilities. Employee must attend mandatory education programs and maintain current professional license, if applicable, in goodstanding.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
