Assume the responsibility of the campus nurse as directed by the Coordinator of Health Services, campus principal, and/or designee. Provide routine and emergency care to students and staff.

Essential Functions

1. Identify health conditions/concerns through health screening and physical assessments.
2. Provide parents/guardians appropriate assistance and information needed for follow-up referral activities relevant to their son's/daughter's health needs.
3. Maintain confidentiality concerning student/employee physical and mental health conditions or concerns. Interpret student health problems to personnel who have a need to know through appropriate protocols of confidentiality.
4. Provide emergency nursing service for ill or injured students/employees on the school campus or at school sponsored activities. Provide emergency transportation for students and staff as necessary.
5. Render nursing services as needed for individual students and employees. Provide nursing services such as administering medication, peritoneal dialysis, catheterization, tube feedings, and suctioning as directed by physicians' orders and/or city/state health regulations. Counsel students/employees with health conditions/concerns and provide appropriate follow-up when needed.
6. Comply with Texas regulations and laws regarding immunizations, child abuse, and control of communicable diseases.
7. Chart accurately on records as required by administrative regulation, District policy and State and Federal agencies, such as:

• Student cumulative records
• Emergency cards
• Immunization records
• Accident reports
• Health clinic daily logs
• Physicians' statements of medical restrictions
• Physicians' written order/parent consent forms
• Medication logs

Other Responsibilities

1. Leave written report of activities for campus nurse.
2. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties and support the goals of the district and division and follow district policies and procedures.
3. Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
4. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Current licensure as a registered nurse with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Subject to district drug and alcohol testing policy and regulation.

Mental/Physical & Environmental Factors

Standing, walking, lifting/lowering, carrying, bending, crouching, reaching above/below pushing and/or pulling weights in excess of 35 pounds; repetitive hand-wrist and elbow motions. Exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
