Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is looking for a Technical Writer to be an integral member of the Joint Munitions Effectiveness Manual (JMEM) Operations Branch at Eglin AFB, supporting both the JMEM Weaponeering Software (JWS) and Joint Anti-air Combat Effectiveness (J-ACE) teams’ mission and product through contractual publications and graphics tasking. The Technical Writer will draft, revise, and edit technical information, briefs, and other media, including Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) and Weaponeering Training Guides. Applicants must complete a full background check and maintain relevant DoD security clearance(s), as well as adhere to ARA Proprietary and DoD Policies and Regulations. This position is located at Eglin AFB, in the city of Valparaiso, Florida on the gulf coast of Florida.

Technical Writer Essential Functions:

  • Creating, modifying, and updating Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF documents
  • Proofing and revising DoD compliance and contractual documentation.
  • Assisting JWS, J-ACE, and Operations Teams with media and document production
  • Maintaining appropriate derivative classifications and marking procedures

Technical Writer Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years technical writing and editing experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
  • US Citizen, able to receive and maintain DoD Security Clearance

Technical Writer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience researching, reviewing, and proofreading technical data and metrics for use in documentation and publications.
  • Ability to produce content for a variety of audiences and subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to assist with quality assurance (QA) reviews, ensuring technical, grammatical, and contextual accuracy, cohesiveness, and compliance with editorial and government writing standards.
  • Experience with content management and program tasking via Jira/Confluence, Microsoft Teams, and/or other online collaborative platforms.
  • Ability to format and create templates as needed.

Technical Writer Preferred Skills:

  • Experience tailoring text for conventions, conciseness, and clarity.
  • Ability to independently complete delegated tasks with little to no supervision
  • Exemplary spelling and grammatical skills
  • Intrinsically motivated
  • Experienced grant and/or proposal writer
