Job Summary :
This position performs a variety of billing and coding, procedure scheduling and clerical duties. In addition, the position performs Medical Assistant duties including : 1) providing instructions to patients as directed by the providers, 2) obtaining vitals, and 3) obtaining patient history.
As a Medical Assistant must ensure compliance with all OSHA / CLIA, and HIPAA laws and regulations.
Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.
Job Description :
Answering telephones. Making appointments for patients. Assisting patients with questions and problems. Accepting messages for physicians.
Scheduling patients for surgery and obtaining pre-certification of insurance.
Clinic Days : Obtaining patient information and insurance information to verify. Taking patients to exam rooms, obtaining temperature and some history, if needed.
Billing and coding : data entry of patient information, coding operative procedures, entering charges. Follow-up for payment with insurance companies.
Filing and assembly of charts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses :
High school graduate or GED.
Secretarial-related courses
Graduate of accredited medical assisting school
Successfully completed registration / certification exam
Specialized Knowledge : Ability to use dictation and transcription equipment.
Familiarity with medical terminology.
40 WPM typing accuracy.
Kind and Length of Experience : One-year experience in medical setting including medical assisting.
DESIRABLE
Registered / licensed Medical Assistant
Familiarity with Word and Excel.
Knowledge of billing, coding and insurance submission.
Three years’ experience in medical setting preferred.
