Description
Do you like working outside with your hands and with equipment? Do you like working with plants or turfgrass? If so, The Cullen at Mineral Mound State Park Golf Course may have the job for you! Mineral Mound is hiring a Landscape Gardener II position for the golf maintenance operation. Typical tasks include operating various mowing equipment, tractors, boom sprayers, and operating and maintaining an irrigation system. Landscaping installation and maintenance are also part of the job. This is a full-time position, offering healthcare and retirement benefits with the Commonwealth of Kentucky including free golfing privileges (space available) and if you inquire about this job do not forget to ask about the Department of Parks "Park Familiarization Program" for the full time employees: "The Cullan" at Mineral Mound State Park is located on the shores of Lake Barkley in Western Kentucky near Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. This 18-hole Michael Hurdzan designed course features Tifeagle Ultradwarf greens with Tifway II bermudagrass tees, fairways and rough.

No golf course experience? No problem. If you have the appropriate employment and/or education background to meet the minimum requirements for this position and possess the willingness to learn, our skilled and experienced Golf Course Superintendent and staff is well equipped to provide the necessary training to get you up to speed with the art of golf course maintenance.
Some of the skills we are looking for are:
  • Experience operating mowers, tractors and other landscaping equipment and tools.
  • Golf course maintenance experience a plus.
  • Creating and maintaining landscape beds.
  • Good communications skills.
  • Chemical and fertilizer applications.
  • Irrigation repair and installation.
  • Basic equipment maintenance.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Time management.
  • Leadership, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience leading small groups of staff.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of experience in grounds maintenance, golf course greenskeeping, landscaping, farming, or other related experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: College courses in horticulture or related fields, technical training in horticulture or related fields, or possession of a Kentucky Nurseryman's Certification or other related trade certification will substitute for the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Operate power equipment and work with pesticides. Exposed to loud noises and sharp objects.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
