Wieland is hiring a Fire Captain . The Fire Captain will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the Firefighter team while on their scheduled shift. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Fire Captain will also participate in fire prevention, fire inspection activities, fire department training, and emergency and non-emergency response. This role is located in East Alton, IL and will be fully on-site.

Wieland is hiring a Fire Captain . The Fire Captain will be responsible for providing leadership and supervision to the Firefighter team while on their scheduled shift. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Fire Captain will also participate in fire prevention, fire inspection activities, fire department training, and emergency and non-emergency response. This role is located in East Alton, IL and will be fully on-site.
Responsibilities Fire Captain Responsibilities:
- Respond to fire, medical, and other emergency calls as needed.
- Serve as Incident Commander on all emergency scenes.
- Review and record daily logs and incident reports as needed.
- Daily assignment of duties to firefighters.
- Ensures routine maintenance on firefighting equipment and property is upkeep and is always in good working condition.
- Determine what equipment is needed in the event an emergency call occurs.
- Perform regular inspections of fire hydrants, extinguishers, and other firefighting equipment to ensure they are in proper working order in all East Alton Wieland facilities.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on firefighting techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Work collaboratively with other emergency response teams.
- Perform duties with a high level of integrity, responsibility, and commitment to safety.
- Support the Fire Chief and Battalion Chief with other initiatives and needs as requested.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A two (2) year college or university degree is preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 3 years of continuous experience within fire service required.
- Experience serving in a leadership capacity.
- Firefighter Certification from at least one of the following:
- Illinois State Fire Marshal – Firefighter II, or
- Illinois State Fire Marshal – Basic Firefighter Operations, or
- IFSAC/Pro-Board Certification – Industrial Firefighter
- Valid Driver’s License (Class B) with a clean driving record.
- EMT/EMR License through the Illinois Department of Public Health.
- CPR/AED credentials as required for the EMT/EMR license.
- HAZMAT (HAZWOPER) Training & Certification
- 24-Hours – New hires
- 8-Hours – Annually
- Respiratory Protection Training & Certification – New hires/annually/fit test
- Confined Space/Rope Rescue – New hires/annually
- Successful completion of an annual comprehensive medical evaluation and physical examination which includes cardiac stress testing.
