Financial Controller (On-Site)
Based in RTP, North Carolina, Cell Microsystems, Inc, is a developer and manufacturer of innovative products for single cell workflows. The Company’s lead products, the CellRaft AIR® System and CellRaft® Array consumables, enable multiple discovery applications across a range of single cell methodologies, including CRISPR, ‘track and trace’ clonal propagation, genomics, stem cells, and organoids. First launched in 2018, the Company’s products have been purchased by leading academic, government, and pharma research organizations in the U.S. and Europe.
Cell Microsystems has an opening for a Financial Controller reporting to the CEO. In this role you will support a growing life science company having sales in North America and Europe, in-house manufacturing, and a robust research and development roadmap. You will work cross-functionally to ensure internal and external financial responsibilities are met timely and efficiently. This individual will be detail-oriented, solutions and process-focused, and a team player with an ability to handle multiple and often shifting priorities. The successful candidate will also gain exposure to working in an entrepreneurial business environment fueled by market-driven innovation and agile processes.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and set up where necessary finance processes, internal controls, policies, and procedures; coordinate financial tasks to ensure proper execution.
  • Lead the implementation of financial management and month ending process by guaranteeing the delivery of business reports and metrics to the CEO.
  • Oversee the production of monthly and real time key metric reports, as well as financial statements and cash flow projections for use by senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Financial management of product manufacturing, including BOM and COGS analysis, supply chain, inventory control
  • Directly engage in all finance and accounting processes including managing AP, AR, GL, fixed assets, payroll processing, revenue recognition, monthly closing, financial reporting as well as:
    • Tax Reporting and Payment: Includes local, state, and federal. Manage business property tax, sales and use tax submittals. Manage tax exemption reporting, including R&D tax and other tax exemptions. Work with outside accounting firms to submit state and federal income tax returns. Review purchasing transactions to confirm correct tax classification across multiple destination states.
    • Treasury: Review bank balances and reconciliations; manage fund transfers and disbursements as necessary.
    • Grants: Provide support for filing and financial reporting on government grants
    • Budget: Run annual budgeting process; monitor and report on P&L variance to budget.
  • Lead the relationship with external auditors and ensure all materials are complete and satisfactory to auditors’ requirements.
  • Lead the relationship with banking, tax & accounting, and insurance partners and providers.
  • Oversee and work with other team members on HR services, onboarding, payroll, and employee benefits including health, STD, 401K, etc.
  • Work with the Executive team to lead the development of financial plans, budget, long term business and funding strategy, and cash-flow management.
  • Additional duties as assigned by CEO.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum seven years of experience as accounting manager or controller in a product-oriented, commercial company, including financial management of manufacturing and inventory
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required; MBA or other relevant advanced degree a plus
  • Audit or public accountant experience, and cost accounting is preferred
  • Experience in a private equity or venture capital back company is preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, initiative, organization, follow through, and the ability to operate in an environment with a high sense of urgency is required
  • Experience negotiating contracts such as customer, lease, license, supplier, etc is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capability to scale competencies and organization as Company expands
  • Consistently exhibited through his/her actions, decisions and interactions (internally and externally), the highest standards of ethics and integrity
  • Strong analytical skills derived from substantial experience in forecasting and budgeting, M&A, financial analysis, financial accounting, and treasury
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and QuickBooks required including advanced skills with Excel; experience with mid-range ERP systems a plus.
