Dripping Springs ISD is Hiring an Instructional Aide - PE Near Dripping Springs, TX

Job Title: P.E. Instructional Aide
Exemption Status: Nonexempt
Reports to: Principal and teacher(s)
Pay Grade: CT-1 - 187 days work calendar
Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Primary PurposeAssist teacher in preparation and management of Physical Education classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
QualificationsEducation/Certification:High school diploma or GED; and
Valid Texas educational aide certificate (prior to day one in the classroom);
One Of The Following
  • Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education (completion of 48 semester hours of college coursework); or
  • Associate’s degree or higher; or
  • Meet rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through an approved course of study for paraprofessionals (Master Teacher courses)
  • Higher level education in kinesiology or related field preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to successfully interact with children
  • Ability to engage in active supervision of children in a PE environment
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
ExperienceNone required; some experience working with children preferred.
Health/Physical Education Instructional Experience PreferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional Support
  • Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Student Management
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups as directed by the teacher.
  • Help manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment
Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping
Motion: Moderate walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating campus-wide P.E. field days and track events.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone.
Equipment UsedPhysical Education equipment, including various game balls, jump ropes, and other sports equipment; Personal computer, copier, typewriter, and audiovisual equipment.
Working Conditions (Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors)Maintain emotional control in possible stressful environment. Continual standing and walking; work both inside and outside, exposure to heat and cold; moderate stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; regular moderate lifting of equipment.
