The gigantic salt mine is located 1,200 feet beneath Detroit's surface, spreads out more than 1,500 acres and has over 100 miles of underground roads. The mine-shaft opening is located at 12841 Sanders Street in Detroit, Michigan.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the incumbent will be an integral part of the Engineering Department and responsible for applying engineering principles to design, modify, or develop facilities, testing machines, equipment, or processes used in processing or manufacturing products by performing the following duties.

Role and Responsibilities

• Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.

• Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment design.

• Determines feasibility of designed new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.

• Develops expenses and capital projects by generating; scope of work, alternative, estimates, project papers, specifications, budgets.

• Executes expense and capital projects by; selecting contractors, writing request for quotes, awarding bits, overseeing contractors and internal maintenance personnel, inspecting/approving work, and closing projects.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Mine, Industrial or Electrical)

• 3 – 5 years of project management experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

• Familiar with Autocad.

• Knowledge with federal mining laws (MSHA).

• Knowledge of mining methods and in use and operation of related equipment.

• Knowledge in the installation, basic maintenance, or operation of mine ventilation and materials processing/handling systems and/or mine shaft maintenance

Physical requirement

• Must be able to climb ladders, steps, crawl and bend regularly

• Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds regularly

• Must be able to wear proper PPE including steel toe shoes and safety glasses

• Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures outside year round
