General Summary/Responsibilities:
A Polysomnographic Technician performs comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in-center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education under the general supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the Board-Certified Sleep Physician.
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED
Additional requirements:
Position specific testing requirement: Must complete the A-STEP Online Self Study Modules and pass the registry exam within three years of hire date. Or must be enrolled in or have completed training in polysomnography in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option. Must also participate in at least 30 credits (averaged 10 per year over the past 36 months) of sleep related continuing education credits.

Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience
Prior job title or occupational experience: N/A
Prior specific functional responsibilities: Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility, or a minimum 1 year as a Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies, or an allied health professional such as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Respiratory Therapist.
