Accounting Associate

Job Title: Accounting Associate
Reports To: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part Time

Summary:
We are seeking a part-time Accounting Associate to join our staff. Dress for Success has multifaceted program offerings and diverse funding sources, including individual, corporate, and foundation funding. There is a heavy emphasis on reporting, requiring this role to focus narrowly on the finance function. The mission of Dress for Success Quad Cities is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Oversee all funds, accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements.
● Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipts of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
● Coordinate all audit activity with oversight of the Executive Director.
● Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports accurately and timely; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes, and inform Executive Director of financial status.

● Assist Executive Director in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.

● Support the Executive Director in engaging the Board of Director’s Finance Committee around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.

● Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for corporate and foundation grants.

Qualifications:

Welcoming personality in-person and on the telephone. Flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving needs of a young organization required.

Education and/or Experience:
At least three to five years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. Individuals would ideally have experience in nonprofit accounting that uses multiple programs.

Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelors, CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.

Technical Competencies:
Proficient in accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar, and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel,
PowerPoint experience with database input and reporting, such as Sales Force, preferred. Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Experience with grant management, as it relates to compliance and reporting of corporate and foundation grants is essential.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
