UT Southwestern Medical Center is Hiring a Communications Manager Near Dallas, TX

Job Summary

Join UT Southwestern as a Communications Manager in the Office of Communications. The Communications Manager will be involved in public relations, media relations work, social media engagement and institutional / leadership projects.

Experience in higher education, healthcare or academic medicine preferred.

Bilingual skills and video editing experience preferred.

This position falls under a hybrid work schedule with 2 days per week in the office and also as needed for events.

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations, or broadcast.
  • Related medical or science degree such as chemistry, biology, biomedical science, bioengineering, or related fields may be considered.
  • May consider additional education in lieu of experience.
  • Minimum 8 years experience in Journalism, Public Relations, and/or Communications combined.
  • Experience in science or medical communications an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with executives, academic leadership, philanthropic community, government agencies and business and community leaders.
  • Bilingual skills; audio/visual skills; social media management; and experience with medical institutions and/or institutions of higher learning is a plus.

Job Duties

  • Develops and implements comprehensive public relations plans, campaigns, and strategies to advance UT Southwestern's reputation.
  • Tracks and evaluates effectiveness of strategies and campaigns vis a vis a competitive set.
  • Prepares articles and other communications for internal and external distribution.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with national, regional, and industry media and influencers to consistently promote UTSW across broadcast, print, and social platforms.
  • Advises UTSW faculty and leadership on publicity, public relations, media relations (including providing media training), and public affairs opportunities.
  • Works independently with limited supervision and collaboratively with other teams across the university and medical center as well as partner institutions, companies, and government, public, and private entities.
  • May supervise other communications positions and provide mentoring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
