Duties and responsibilities of a Fire Protection Consultant: Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services for fixed fire protection systems per applicable codes and standards. Perform annual fire pump flow tests and other fixed fire protection equipment testing as necessary in accordance with the applicable NFPA and internal standards. Review sprinkler system design, fire alarm system design, foam system design, performance-based fire engineering design, as requested under the direction of a P.E. or an experienced consultant. Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards. Assist in the resolution of design problems by performing field inspections, reviewing detailed design work, reviewing design computations done by others, and/or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project. Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries. Conduct and document basic code analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations. Apply engineering calculations including fire water and sprinkler system water supplies. Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
