Haber Oaks Campus, within Community High School District 155, has an anticipated opening for a social worker beginning with the 2024-2025 school year. Salary and benefits are regionally competitive.Please review general job description below.

REPORTS TO: Principal/Director of Student Services/Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services

RESPONSIBILITIES: The District 155 social worker is responsible for facilitating administrative processes; ensuring compliance with current laws and regulations, being a resource to students, families, and teachers; providing ongoing services to students; acting as a member of the school/district crisis team, referring families to other agencies and helping students achieve their educational goals.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous related experiences and/or training
  • Valid Illinois Social Worker License with the Illinois State Board of Education
  • Possess credentials as required by the State of Illinois agency and District 155

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL TO THE POSITION:• Assesses student and family needs for developing/implementing plans of service to support children and/or determining eligibility for services in compliance with all district, state, and federal regulatory requirements.• Collaborates and participates with all staff in meetings, workshops, and seminars as assigned to convey and/or gather information to meet student needs.• Coordinates and consults with all staff, parents, and/or outside agencies/service providers for the purpose of providing referrals and supporting the child’s educational program• Demonstrates professionalism and collaborates with others (e.g. administrators, teachers, nurses, parents, mental health agencies, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the school and teams.• Maintains case records and written communications, organizes one’s schedule and workspace for the purpose of documenting activities and complying with mandated requirements.• Maintains knowledge of current practice in the field (e.g. laws, trends, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.• Manages and/or assists in crisis situations that arise within the school and/or district for the purpose of diffusing the crisis.• Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the team.• Provide interventions/services in group and/or individual formats to students to meet IEP minutes and/or provide social-emotional support to the regular education population.• Serves as a liaison in conflicts between parents, teachers, and/or students to resolve issues that could impede student’s educational success.• Supports the child’s educational program by gathering information for the purpose of assisting parents with strategies to use in the home environment, building trust between family and district, and providing referrals.Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include effective listening; facilitating meetings; interpersonal aptitude; monitoring activities; problem-solving; and record keeping.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include age-appropriate activities/behaviors; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; knowledge of community resources; knowledge of problem-solving/response to intervention.

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic, job-related technology. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with diverse individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes, and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem-solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives, and problem-solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adaptability/flexibility; communicating with persons of diverse backgrounds/knowledge/skills; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; decision making; multi-tasking; organizing; and maintaining effective working relationships.

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit and stand for prolonged periods, to use his/her hands to type, handle, or feel; to talk, and hear. The employee must be physically capable of bending, reaching, and lifting loads up to 35 lbs. As a result, the employee’s physical presence is required.
