To qualify for a Monitor Technician position an employee must be trained in basic cardiac arrhythmia interpretation and observes cardiac monitors.
Accurately identifies cardiac rhythms and notifies Clinical Manager and / or caregiver when cardiac rhythm changes occur.
Promotes and maintains patient support including but not limited to : interprets and post rhythm strips and protocol, performs 12 lead EKGs.
Maintain and clean portable telemetry monitors between patient use according to manufacturers guidelines.
Education
Post hire the employee must achieve 95% on a subsequent written EKG strip test. Before staff can assume independent shifts and Annual Competency Program Evaluation written tests will be evaluated;
observation will be conducted; process who to notify for monitor will be evaluated; process for escalation of EKG monitor problems to caregiver will be evaluated.
Experience
Experience in a health care setting preferred. Proficient with medical technology. Previous experience in a related position desirable.
Able to relate to patients, physicians, hospital personnel and visitors in a positive and responsive way. Ability to work under stressful conditions.
Good written and oral communication skills. Computer skills preferred. Able to read, write and comprehend medical technology.
Licenses / Certificates :
Basic Life Support - BLS (with skills check-off) preferred
