Direct care workers, also known as personal care assistants, caregivers, home health or personal care aides, give assistance to people who are sick, injured, mentally or physically disabled, or the elderly and fragile. They work in the home and help their clients with daily activities, such as bathing and bathroom functions, feeding, grooming, taking medication, and some housework. A DCW will help clients make and keep appointments with doctors, provide or arrange transportation, make and serve meals, make sure they take their medicine and serve as a companion for their clients. The direct care worker assists the elderly, patients, or any person who has a physical or mental disability with individual activities of daily living and activities of daily living in their home. He or she is a most important member of our team.
The direct care worker should prepare and submit records of services performed, reporting changes in client condition to supervisory or administrative staff. Reminding client of health care-related tasks, such as monitoring vital signs and medications. A direct care worker may shop for a client or perform other incidental tasks or errands which relate to the clients wellbeing. The worker may accompany clients to locations outside the home such as to physicians' offices or on outings.
