Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is Hiring a Deputy-Sheriff Near Conroe, TX

The Deputy Sheriff will actively enforce laws, maintain order, protect life and property, investigate criminal activity, and educate the community on matters of public safety.

This position requires a current TCOLE Peace Officer license or upcoming Basic Peace Officer Course graduation. This is not a posting to attend a peace officer academy.

*Compensation is based on full-time documented years of service with TCOLE. Base pay does not include any additional certificate pay or incentives the candidate may qualify for. Please visit MCTXSheriff.org for our salary information table, certificate pay, and other incentives.

Responsibilities
  • Enforce the laws of the State of Texas
  • Conduct accurate field investigations
  • Respond to calls for service, if assigned
  • Execution of criminal and traffic warrants, if assigned
  • Work any shift as directed or as needed
  • Involved in monitoring contraband, suicide attempts or escape attempts, if assigned
  • Supervising inmates, if assigned
  • Will be involved with the process of booking and releasing inmates, if assigned
  • Other job related duties requested by the Supervisor
Qualifications
  • Must hold current/active Texas (TCOLE) Peace Officer's License
  • Must currently be at least 21 years of age
  • Must possess high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be able to successfully complete the MCSO Deputy Readiness Course or FTO program
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the contiguous United States for a period of time sufficient to conduct a background investigation
  • Must possess a current valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years
  • Must have a favorable employment history. All information given regarding past employment will be thoroughly checked
  • No conviction above a Class B Misdemeanor or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last 10 years nor have been on, or currently on, court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense
  • No conviction of family violence
  • Must pass all phases of the required testing and application process, details below
  • Must be able to pass MCSO firearms qualification with an 80% or better
  • Ability to physically perform tasks including, but not limited to, standing, kneeling, bending, running, and walking for long periods of time
  • Must be physically able to restrain inmates if necessary
  • Must possess good verbal communication skills
  • Must demonstrate a professional appearance, be punctual and dependable

Testing Information
: Applicants must be able to take and pass the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office POST test. All testing is facilitated in the MCSO Recruiting Division Office at 1 Criminal Justice Dr., Conroe, Texas, 77301. Test score requirements for this position are:

POST Written Test:

  • Math: 70%
  • Grammar: 70%
  • Reading: 70%

Physical Requirement:

  • Officers with less than 1 year of TCOLE experience will require:
    • Push Ups: Minimum of 24 within 1 minute
    • Sit Ups: Minimum of 24 within 1 minute
    • 1.5-mile run within 15 min 55 seconds
    • Agility Course: timed IAT agility course to be completed in 40 seconds, includes a 175lb red-man dummy drag
  • Officers with more than 1 year of TCOLE experience will require:
    • Agility Course: timed IAT agility course to be completed in 40 seconds, includes a 175lb red-man dummy drag

Shift HoursMust be able to work 12-hour shifts with alternating 2-3 consecutive days on shift with 2-3 days off shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Shift times are 6am - 6pm or 6pm - 6am.

Additional Information: 
After receiving a conditional offer of employment applicant must pass the following before becoming an employee of Montgomery County:

  • Drug screen (1/2 cost = $25, responsibility of applicant) 
  • Physical agility test (1/2 cost = $22.50, responsibility of applicant)
  • Medical non-DOT physical (responsibility of applicant)
  • Psychological exam with our selected psychologist (MCSO pays full cost of $200.00)
