Job Summary The Staff Development Operations (DevOps) Engineer is responsible for helping define and implement industry standards and best practices around our cloud microservices platform, as well as providing technical leadership to the team. They will engage regularly with development, quality, security and other teams to ensure the highest level of quality is being met. Essential Job Functions: Infrastructure Management - Own and guide the IaC repositories, tools, and process for management and automation of our Infrastructure. Support the Infrastructure in all environments, providing support to ensure the performance, availability, and security of our platform to all users. Own and continually improve the Observability systems to ensure issues are known before they have impact and that we have the data we need to address them. Process Management - Provide technical leadership to the DevOps team, including training and documenting new and existing processes and procedures. Take on complex projects and see them through from design to implementation. Stay current in industry trends, best practices, and technology and bring those insights to the teams. Design Review - Provide technical design review to developers to ensure their services meet our best practices for production services. Contribute code as well as provide code and design review for tools developed internally, which help automate and increase the velocity and quality of service. Reports To: Senior Manager Direct Reports: None Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required. This position is hybrid with an onsite schedule of 3-4 days per month. In-office requirements are subject to change based on business needs. This position is currently available to candidates that reside within 60 miles of Columbus, OH. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT or related field; or equivalent experience 5 years of experience in building and maintaining a production cloud microservice platform. Experience building, testing, and designing software and automation. Experience providing technical leadership to a team. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in computer science, IT or related field Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proven record of accomplishment as a DevOps engineer in a fast-paced environment. Experience with AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2, EKS, S3, SSM, RDS, etc.). Strong experience with containers (Docker, EKS, Kubernetes, etc.). Ability to produce quality documentation. Experience providing technical leadership to a team of engineers. Knowledge of service meshing (Istio, ingress/egress gateways, load balancers, etc.). Knowledge of various databases and web technologies (NGINX, RabbitMQ, Postgres, Mongo, Redis, etc.). Experience deploying and supporting microservices-based architectures. Strong experience with various managed and self-hosted CI/CD tooling (Travis, Buildkite, Codefresh, Github Actions, etc.). Solid understanding of DNS, TCPDUMP, CDNS, SSL, Git, firewall and network concepts. Strong Linux fundamentals (RedHat/Debian). Scripting ability (Bash, Go, Python). Strong experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, etc.). Analytical/problem troubleshooting to resolve infrastructure issues. Understanding of logging and monitoring tools (Opsgenie, Splunk, Datadog, ELK, etc.). Typical Starting Range: $133,500.00 - $241,900.00 Full Salary Range for position: California: $153,500.00 - $302,400.00 Colorado: $133,500.00 - $254,000.00 New York: $146,800.00 - $302,400.00 Washington: $140,100.00 - $278,200.00 The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills. Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan. All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO. Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December.
