Platte County Highway Department is Hiring an Equipment Operator I Near Columbus, NE

The Platte County Highway Department will accept applications for Equipment Operators I. Applicants must fill out an application form available from the Highway Department office at the Courthouse (2610 14th St #18, Columbus, NE 68601)

Starting Wage: Based on experience.

Position Overview:

This is a skilled apprentice work in the operation of light and heavy trucks and related automotive equipment. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and other automotive equipment for the prompt performance of assignments according to establish routines or special instruction. Must operate equipment as a regular assignment plus perform general laboring duties when not operating a truck or equipment. You will be working under general supervision of the Highway Superintendent, the Assistant Highway Superintendent of the Department Foreman or designee. '

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operate truck hauling rock, dirt, asphalt, gravel, sand/salt mixture and related road maintenance materials; operation a dump truck with snow plow, tractors, mowers and loaders; sand and salt county roads, install various equipment attachments including snow plow; complete property maintenance logs for lubricant and fuel used.
  • Performs labor work in connection with assigned projects such as crack sealing; tree bush removal, and general shop maintenance.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment including checking and changing oil and oil filters, fueling and washing equipment, checking other fluid levels, lubricating and inspecting tires and reporting non-routine mechanical problems. '
  • Remove snow and open roads for vehicular traffic when required, including providing traffic control, erection of barricades and related support activities.
  • Perform general related work as required.

Qualifications:

  • A Valid Class B CDL (minimum)
  • Knowledge of routine equipment maintenance & care
  • Ability to operate equipment in safe manner
  • Ability to work in harmonious manner with co-workers and others.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
