Job Responsibilities and Duties :

The Operations Supervisor will provide leadership and supervision for safe, efficient, and sustainable Smelter operations at the Met Complex, in alignment with planned production increases.

• Responsibilities include, but are not limited to : creating and integrating Weekly and Monthly Plans into daily Shift Plans, and communicating and executing those Shift Plans;
• providing visible leadership among crew and peers; developing and managing balanced workgroups; allocating and sharing resources;

collecting and communicating accurate information in a timely manner; and, setting area expectations, and holding crews accountable for working safely, performing quality work, communicating effectively, and taking care of equipment.

This position requires routine communication, collaboration, and interaction with peers and management.

• Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture.
• Prepare Work Orders and interface with the Maintenance department on equipment requirements and activities.
• Hold people accountable in a consistent manner, document performance as required, resolve non-conformance issues, and address employee issues with appropriate resources.
• Collect and assemble information to communicate accurate pass downs.
• Understand and work within the budget.
• Develop backup plans to pre-empt changes and variances.
• Set and maintain standards and expectations for housekeeping and 5S program requirements.
• Coordinate and conduct work area inspections and safety meetings.
• Ensure that operators have all the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills to perform their jobs safely and efficiently.
• Collaborate with the Training department, facilitate training opportunities, and document completion.
• Maximize utilization of key Smelter equipment and systems in line with company operating policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and certifying authority requirements.
• Communicate production and safety goals with the crew, maintain production and training schedules, manage timecards, and perform record keeping duties as directed.
• Perform incident / accident investigations, complete required documents, and communicate findings to appropriate recipients per expected schedules.
• Create an environment that promotes teamwork and innovation, and actively seek feedback from the workforce for continuous smelter improvements.
• Advise on the selection of prospective employees.
• Provide input and feedback on Business Improvement initiatives and Defect Elimination projects.

Qualifications and Skills :

Required :

• Excellent leadership abilities, including ability to train and mentor hourly employees, assist in conflict resolution, and encourage teamwork.
• Working knowledge of industrial operations and maintenance including safety (OSHA Rules & Regulations), production, maintenance, economics, equipment, and environmental regulations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to include accurate and detailed record keeping.
• Basic computer and math skills, plus the ability to learn and utilize Smelter authorized computer software.

Preferred :

Thorough knowledge of Smelter processes, operating procedures, and techniques.

Education & Experience :

High school diploma and 5 or more years of smelting, refining, foundry, or metals processing experience; OR bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering, process engineering, or mechanical engineering and 2 years related work experience.
