This position supports International Paper’s Cellulose Fibers business in Columbus, Mississippi. As one of the largest softwood pulp producers in the world, this location produces 1,300 ADMT/day of bleached softwood pulp for use in paper and specialty products such as absorbent personal care products, pharmaceuticals, and photographic-based papers. International Paper’s cellulose fiber manufacturing facilities are located across the United States and Canada.
The Product Performance Manager (PPM) has an executive responsibility and authority to promote the awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization and ensures a quality management system is established, implemented and maintained. The PPM is the liaison between our customers’ needs and interpreting those needs to the Columbus Mill and Modified Fiber facilities and making sure our customers are satisfied. This position is vital to International Paper’s Global Cellulose Fibers Business. Position Level will vary based on experience and education.
The PPM will be a full‐time role separate from Production, reporting directly to the Columbus Mill and Modified Fibers Manager. The PPM will have a designated back‐up in the event the PPM is away from the facility for any reason. Most of the time the designated back-up will be the Quality Manager. The PPM will report any significant quality issues to the appropriate Facility Lead Team at regular meetings. Ability to travel up to 15-20%
The PPM or designee is expected to participate in all Quality Calls, Quality Summits and attend mill leadership meetings. Periodically, the PPM will be asked to assist with auditing other mills and participate in group customer and/or technical meetings.
The Job You Will Perform:
  • Lead Quality System requirements
  • Lead and assist trials conducted at the mill level
  • Ensure all customer requirements are being met
  • Knowledge of Omega & Proficy
  • Accountable for ensuring customers get the right CoAs per production order
  • Accountable for ensuring quality teams upload CoAs into the customer Portal
  • Responsible for working with PS&D to ensure the teams use the i-Auditor > 95% YTD for vehicle inspections
  • Accountable for complaint investigation and ensure teams find root cause corrective actions to eliminate repeats
  • Report on product performance, quality trends and quality metrics to daily operations, mill leadership and corporate quality and technology managers
  • Work closely with our Customers, AE’s and Sales
  • Review any quality issues at the facilities and communicate accordingly
  • Assist the Quality Manager with CBAs, Best Practice improvements and the QMS Manual
  • Accountable for quality training to existing employees, new-hires, visitors and contractors for customer information on some frequency
  • Accountable for ensuring new warehouse operators are properly training on customer needs and proper package handling and loading skills
  • Assist in High Risk mill audits and FMEA
  • Provide time of manufacture quality information to CTS representatives on a timely basis.
  • Participate in periodic Quality Summits
  • Assist in the annual ISO audits and re-certification
  • Assist the Quality manager with managing new product development trials at the mill, including developing trial plans with the Quality Manager
  • Accountable for making real time mill quality decisions that will ensure optimum product performance
  • Responsible for completing the quality summary for the weekly Mill Manager call
  • Responsible for completing the mill monthly quality results summary
  • Accountable for the mill Quality Observation Program and reports results to CTS
  • Participate in monthly customer scorecard calls
  • Participate in the weekly GCF Quality call
  • Work closely with PS&D on container quality to ensure no contaminate is sent to our customers
  • Lead on some frequency a warehouse and package handling audit with external GCF resource
  • Responsible for creating capital project quality assurance start up plans to protect mill and customers from defective products
  • Responsible for management of customer on-site visits to include but not limited to development and delivery of presentations and coordinating schedules for internal sales, external customers and mill participants
  • Willingness to engage outside of normal business hours
  • Ability to lead/facilitate cross-functional teams to resolve customer quality improvement efforts
  • Champion of continuous improvement efforts of products and the customer product experience
The Skills You Will Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering/paper related concentration or equivalent industry experience.
  • Prefer 10 years in an engineering/management position in a fully integrated pulp and paper mill with five of these years being papermaking and /or quality area focused.
  • Qualified candidate will have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
