QUALITY ENGINEER COLUMBIA CITY, IN – COLUMBIA CITY PLANT As a member of the Quality team, the Customer Quality Engineer will be responsible for planning and directing activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards, supplier, and Customer PPAPs by performing the following duties.
The Quality Engineer / PPAP Coordinator is part of the Quality department and reports to the Quality Manager.
The Role
  • Your work will include, but not be limited to:
  • Supplier PPAP approvals and maintain required supporting documentation, in Profile.
  • Customer PPAP submissions and maintain required supporting documentation, SQMS.
  • Maintain SQMS matrix on new customer program PPAP status.
  • Verify SQMS PPAP status for service acceptance.
  • Print PPAP report out on service as required.
  • Maintain/ Create PPC Quality Service system.
  • Attend PPAP conference calls and provide plant updates as required.
  • Maintain Supplier PPAP Bump Chart matrix.
  • Assist with PTR coordination and assist in preparing proper documentation.
  • Support in capability and Gage R&R studies with Quality Engineer.
  • Support the Bump Chart tracking breakpoints for product changes.
  • Attend weekly PPAP call, provide feedback as needed.
  • Perform H-Point scanning seats (Front row and second row).
  • Overlaying with CAD models using PolyWorks software.
  • Verify lab requirements are preformed per the required schedule.
  • Develop and implement procedures to investigate and correct out of tolerance conditions.
  • Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation.
  • Establish program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.
  • IATF16949 procedures application and knowledge.
  • Perform IATF Internal Audits as required.
  • Work with Program Management to understands scope of EWO changes, supplier PPAP target dates and support EWO breakpoint dates.
  • Communicate break point dates to customer(s).
  • Prepare IMDS request and work with all Lear plants PPAP Coordinates to ensure request are completed timely.
  • Submit IMDS request to Lear PETC, follow up and correct issue No BOM issues, supplier and part number issues as necessary.
  • Assist in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
  • Compile and write training material, conduct training sessions on quality control activities as required.
  • Development and maintenance of manufacturing control plan, process flow, and PFMEA’s for process control.
  • Actively participate in self-directed work team model.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Follow ISO14001 and IATF16949 procedures/processes.
  • Participate in plant recycling programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Contribute to the achievement of quality/management objectives by ensuring that quality policies, procedures, and processes are followed.
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S. /B.A.); two or more year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distributions, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
