Equipment Operator Job Summary
Responsible for maintaining solar field collector cleanliness referred to as reflectivity. Operates standard water trucks with water spay diffusers, and Albatross brush cleaning truck with hydraulic boom arm and rotating brushes and sprayers.
Incumbents work rotating shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. From time to time, you will be required to work weekends and holidays, scheduled or unscheduled depending on need.
There are instances when working overtime will be required. This is a safety sensitive position.
Equipment Operator Benefits
Equipment Operator Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Operates water trucks for solar field deluge cleaning, and the Albatross hydraulic brush cleaning truck to wash the surface of the mirrors.
Inspect water trucks and Albatross units, report any repairs needed. Maintain in good working condition. Equipment is to be left clean, fully fueled and with water capacities filled upon the completion of each shift.
Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair tasks on cleaning equipment as required. Note : Minor maintenance and inspection may entail adding fluids but does not include fluid changes or other repairs requiring the rolling stock Mechanic.
Equipment maintenance tasks shall include the completion of an equipment check list to confirm the condition of tires, function of lighting, inspection of pump seals and leakage, and checking fluid levels.
Operate beta test equipment and participate in reflectivity optimization initiatives involving either specialized or modified cleaning equipment or refilling and / or equipment logistics management.
Advises unit Supervisor of daily activities and irregularities in equipment and the solar field.
Maintains neat, accurate logs and records obtained from operation of equipment to prepare detailed reports related to solar field reflectivity.
While working rotating shifts, 12 hours per day, all meal periods and breaks shall be considered as paid, on-duty time. The employee will coordinate work activities with co-workers and the supervisor, as appropriate, to facilitate the applicable meal and break periods.

Equipment Operator Prerequisites
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid California Class A driver's license. One (1) year minimum experience operating light duty and heavy equipment, including 8-10-wheel dump trucks, water trucks or vacuum trucks, utility tractors and equipment trailers.
Familiarity with water pumping equipment is beneficial. Familiarity and / or experience with other mobile equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, front-end loaders, road graders and other excavating equipment is preferred.
Equipment Operator Skills and Abilities
Ability to carry out detailed instructions with limited supervision.
Ability to use logical and divergent reasoning to solve problems.
Ability to work safely and effectively with others.
Ability to maintain clean work area and neat, accurate logs and journals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to read, interpret and retrieve information from technical manuals.
Ability to learn and execute emergency response procedures.
Ability to operate, monitor and analyze problems with assigned equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Willingness to assist in training other personnel as directed.
Knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office 365, and SAP.
Essential Functions
The ability to speak, read and write in English. Ability to perform heavy physical work, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force with assistance, 50 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks.
The ability to discern assorted colors. Job requires working in low light conditions and during extended night shifts with variations in start and stop times depending on sunrise, sunset, or other cleaning conditions requiring either natural or artificial lighting.
Ability to use emergency equipment in emergency situations, such as respirators and S.C.B.A. (self-contained breathing apparatus).
