Overview
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a Vehicle & Equipment Technician. This position will work closely with a small team of fleet professionals that are responsible for over 500 vehicles, trailers, and other equipment.
The primary vehicles used by the department are Police Ford Explorer, Chevy Silverado, Jeep Cherokee, Ford Escape, Ford F150 and several large speciality vehicles.
Duties include LOF's, tires, brakes, tune-ups, emergency equipment install, and striping / lettering of vehicles. Occasionally, the Technician will be dispatched with the flatbed to recover disabled vehicles.
This is a full-time position with minimal overtime or extended hours, although some can be expected. The repair facility is located in the historic Fort Ethan Allen Complex on Route 15 in Colchester, VT.

PUBLIC SAFETY BACKGROUND CHECKS : Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position to include Motor Vehicle / Criminal Records, Personal History, Credit and any additional background check(s).
Environmental Factors
Duties are generally performed in the public safety garage, but some work at remote facilities may be required. Incumbents will be required to operate a truck or other state vehicles in order to make repairs or recoveries and require a valid Vermont driver's license.
Sufficient physical strength is needed to perform duties which may require lifting weights of as much as 80 pounds. Exposure to noise, vehicles in operation, petroleum products and paint odors are probable.
Some risk of injury is inherent in this position. Overtime work may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years or more of experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing of automotive equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of trade school or technician program, or other relevant training or certification.
Experience with diagnostics and / or welding.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required.
A Vermont Inspection license within 60 days of employment.
Incumbent must provide the tools required for this position.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 80 pounds
