Position Details

Teaching Position Multiple High School Teaching Positions

Primary purpose :

Ovid-Elsie Area Schools is seeking dedicated and passionate educators to join our team for the - school year. We are hiring three high school teachers with one or more of the following endorsements :

  • Science
  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies
  • Health / Physical Education

Responsibilities :

A high school teacher reports directly to the building principal. This person is also critical in team planning and department meetings.

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to :

  • Creating a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
  • Teaching high school students in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instructing students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
  • Developing lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Using a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
  • Translating lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluating students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifying student needs and cooperating with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creating an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
  • Participating cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
  • Selecting and requisitioning books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Supervising students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
  • Administering group standardized tests in accordance with school and state testing programs.
  • Participating in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participating in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

Qualifications :

  • A Bachelors Degree or higher in related subject(s) from an accredited university.
  • Valid Michigan Teacher certification
  • One of the following endorsements Required : (DI) Integrated Science, (DP) Physical Science, (DE) Physics, or (DH) Earth / Space Science.

Mathematics (EX).History (CC), Social Studies (RX), Social Science (CX), or Geography (CB).(MX) Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, (MC) Health and Physical Education, (MA) Health, or (MB) Physical Education.

  • Additional teaching certificate endorsements preferred
  • Knowledge of Michigan Curriculum Standards.
  • First Aid and CPR.

Salary and Benefits :

Based on the Ovid-Elsie Education Association contract. Successful candidates will be eligible for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage, as well as illness and vacation days.
