MFT-CKF, Inc. is Hiring a Building and Grounds Maintenance Technician Near Clinton, IA

As a Building and Grounds Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical and maintenance services throughout the facility to keep our general equipment and systems in excellent condition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain structural components of the plant facility, including walls, floors, ceilings, doors, and windows.
  • Construct, install, or repair fixtures, cabinets, shelving units, and other carpentry items as needed to support production and operational needs.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as painting, staining, and sealing surfaces, to preserve the appearance and integrity of wood and other materials.
  • Repair or replace damaged or malfunctioning furniture, equipment, or machinery as needed to support plant operations.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and departments to coordinate repairs and maintenance activities and minimize disruptions to production schedules.
  • Maintain exterior landscapes, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, planting flowers, and removing weeds to enhance the appearance of the facility.
  • Inspect and maintain parking lots, including patching asphalt, painting lines, and repairing potholes to ensure safety and functionality for employees and visitors.
  • Maintain dock doors and dock levelers, ensuring they operate smoothly and securely to facilitate shipping and receiving activities. • Inspect, repair, and maintain industrial racking systems to ensure they meet safety standards and provide efficient storage solutions.
  • Perform general plumbing tasks, including repairing leaks, unclogging drains, and replacing fixtures to maintain water supply and sanitation systems.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing HVAC systems to ensure proper climate control and air quality throughout the facility.
  • Utilize knowledge of industrial roofing repair to inspect, maintain, and repair the facility's roofing systems, including identifying and addressing leaks, repairing damaged roofing materials, and ensuring proper drainage.

- Assist in the design and implementation of structural modifications or improvements to enhance the functionality and efficiency of the facility.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, materials used, and hours worked.
  • Assist in the procurement of materials, tools, and supplies needed for carpentry projects, landscaping, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, and maintenance tasks.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in carpentry, landscaping, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, Facilities Maintenance Carpenter Page 2 and facility maintenance to continuously improve skills and knowledge.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS • High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in carpentry preferred.

  • Proven experience as a carpenter, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials, including woodworking, framing, and finishing.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to understand project requirements and specifications.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and perform tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety protocols at all times.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • No direct employee supervision. May be required to coordinate and oversee work performed by outside contractors. May act as back-up during manager’s absence.
  • Depending on site location may coordinate and/or monitor activities of plant bailer as directed by supervisor. Complexity
  • Ensuring that all structural elements within the plant facility meet safety standards and can withstand industrial usage.
  • The ability to read and comprehend various diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and mechanical blueprints is required.
  • Depending on site location and job duties, knowledge of trade mathematics, computing and verifying dimensions in the planning, layout out, and final dimensional checking process.
  • Designing and building custom fixtures, cabinets, and other carpentry items to meet specific production or operational needs.
  • Working with precision and accuracy to ensure proper fit and alignment of carpentry components, especially in areas where millimeter differences can impact functionality.
  • Understanding and complying with building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards relevant to industrial facilities.
  • Choosing appropriate materials that can withstand the demands of an industrial environment, such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire retardancy.
  • Collaborating with other departments to integrate carpentry work with heavy machinery or production equipment, ensuring compatibility and safety.
  • Responding to urgent repair needs, such as structural damage or equipment failures, to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
  • Installing and maintaining specialized industrial equipment, such as conveyor systems, industrial racking, or automated machinery, which may require advanced carpentry skills.
  • Prioritizing safety in all carpentry activities, especially in environments where hazards such as heavy machinery, electrical systems, or chemical exposure are present.
  • Working closely with other maintenance technicians, engineers, and production staff to coordinate carpentry projects and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Staying updated on new carpentry techniques, materials, and technologies relevant to industrial settings to enhance skills and adapt to evolving maintenance needs. Latitude of Judgment
  • High degree of interaction and decisions made with employees, customers and vendors regarding equipment intricacies and requirements.
  • Minimal guidance and supervision required in daily execution of duties. Decisions outside those required for Facilities Maintenance Carpenter Page 3 routine daily maintenance are reviewed by supervisor.
  • Expenditures beyond routine maintenance require approval of supervisor and/or the Plant Manager.

Physical Demands/Efforts

  • The position requires the ability to stand, walk, and/or sit.
  • The incumbent must be able to use their hands to finger, handle and touch materials, parts, and equipment.
  • The position requires the ability to both talk and hear.
  • Required to lift 10 pounds frequently; and pushes and/or lift up to 40 pounds occasionally. • Although not typically performed, the incumbent is required when lifting over 40 pounds to use prescribed methods which include material handling equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • In the production environment, the position is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts with occasional exposure to fumes and/or airborne particles.
  • May infrequently be exposed to work in high, precarious places, and may be at risk of electrical shock, or exposed to heat and vibration.
  • The noise level in the production work environment is usually loud.
  • Employees are expected to comply with existing safety procedures including but not limited to proper lifting mechanics, use of protective equipment, lock-out-tag-out, forklift operation policies, and maintaining a safe work environment OTHER JOB-SPECIFIC

REQUIREMENTS

  • May be required to supply own carpentry tools depending on site and job duties.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • May be required to travel to other MFT-CKF sites for various projects such as, El Paso, TX

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
