Taylor Excavating & Construction, Inc. is Hiring a Construction estimator Near Chicago, IL

Taylor Excavating & Construction is seeking a Construction Estimator to join our team in the Chicagoland area. We’re looking for someone with significant experience providing cost estimates and cost management in the construction industry.

Previous experience with earthworks estimating is preferable.

Construction Estimator Responsibilities :

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labor estimates for projects, applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles or processes.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs
  • Drafting proposals that detail envisaged materials, costs, and durations for multiple projects
  • Soliciting pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Building relationships with General Contractors, Owners & subcontractors
  • Contract negotiation; review and markup for submittal
  • Maintains cost data base by entering and backing up data
  • Assist internal departments with information throughout the duration of the project.
  • Evaluate contract changes for cost impact
  • Manage deadlines and push the team to ensure timeliness
  • Manage change order process for multiple live projects
  • Follow up with clients on submitted bids
  • Tracking unforeseen issues and troubleshooting

Skills and abilities

  • Proficiency in reading / understanding construction plans and specifications.
  • Proficiency with quantity take-off software programs.
  • Experience working with 3D models and associated software programs preferred.
  • Experience providing training, supervision, proposal development, and business development desired.
  • Dependable, conscientious, and well-spoken.
  • Exceptional quantitative skills.
  • Outstanding proposal writing skills.

Preferred Requirements :

  • Degree in civil engineering, Quantity Survey, Construction management or similar.
  • 5years with construction estimating
  • Qualification in project management is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience as a earthworks estimator.
  • Ability to negotiate with seasoned Sales personnel.
  • Strong Leadership skills
