Brothers' Keeper, Inc is Hiring a Qualified Mental Health Professional Near Chester, VA

The Functional Job Description offers a useful list of the job responsibilities and expectations for the position of Mental Health Skill Building Counselor. This list may be revised/updated at any time. The employee is responsible for meeting expectations of the Mental Health Skill Building Program and Brothers’ Keeper Inc. even if it is not listed below. Individuals in this position report directly to the Mental Health Skill Building Program Director. The description does not supercede the direct supervisors directives/expectations or Brothers’ Keeper Inc. policies and procedures.

To this end, Mental Health Skill Building Counselors have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide individual counseling/family counseling (when appropriate) and crisis intervention to eligible participants.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with other agencies involved in the care of participants.
  • Maintain communication with Counselor (when applicable) to ensure the overall well-being of participant.
  • Promote the program in a positive manner to elicit referrals and maintain census and growth of the program.
  • Maintain an accurate schedule counseling sessions to be reviewed at any time.
  • Submit a copy of all Restraint Forms and Incident Reports to your direct supervisor.
  • Ensure that every Incident Report is completed immediately after the incident and submitted to the direct supervisor or Director the same day.
  • Complete all Progress Notes using sound clinical documentation and abiding by all agency, Medicaid and licensure standards.
  • Be available for 24 hour Emergency Response.
  • Constantly monitor and document participants’ progress towards completion of treatment goals and objectives.
  • Place participants’ documentation in appropriate chart on a weekly basis.
  • Participate in monthly individual supervision and weekly Team Meetings with the direct supervisor.
  • Complete all assessments, bio-psychosocial reports and individual Service Plan on or before the due date.
  • Attend all annual mandatory agency trainings (Handle with Care, First Aid & CPR, Human Rights, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Identify clinical areas that require strengthening and seek out opportunities to attend training in such areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist staff with observations
  • Serve pro-bono clients
  • Assist with client de-escalations
  • Serve as driver on outings-client pickups and drop offs-routes and staff commutes
  • Facilitate securing signatures for documentation
  • Confer daily with staff to identify their needs
  • Prepare for psychoeducational groups when needed
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with school staff to promote the program, elicit referrals, and maintain census and growth of the program
  • Attend the site’s staff meetings
  • Conduct family contacts on an as needed basis
  • Develop and obtain permission slips for therapeutic outings
  • Assist in obtaining daily attendance of all clients in the county
  • Purchase food and supplies needed for program
  • Manage distribution of snacks
  • Ensure the care and maintenance of vehicles i.e. inspections, registration, fuel, etc.
  • Assist potential clients and families with overcoming obstacles with approval process i.e. transportation to assessment appointments
  • Foster relationship development with clients, their families and administration by attending extracurricular activities periodically
  • Attend all related school review team meetings, staffings, etc. related to a client when staff is unable to attend
  • Attend all annual mandatory agency training (Handle with Care, First Aid & CPR, Human Rights, HIPPA, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) will possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a Human Services Field with at least one (1) year of direct clinical services preferably in a crisis setting.

Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour
