SPARTANBURG SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO is Hiring a Parent liaison Near Chesnee, SC

GENERAL SUMMARY :

Provides resource opportunities for Spartanburg School District Two families with children in the prenatal to five-year-old age range in order to promote school readiness.

Assists parents regarding appropriate learning situations and educational settings for young children. Assists families in attending to the needs of children related to health care, social / emotional development, language development, physical development, family living, and cognitive growth.

Assists the district in coordinating enrollment, testing, placement and communication regarding the opportunities for the four-year-old kindergarten program.

Provides guidance for families to promote consistent school attendance and success. Assists in organizing educational nights and events at the school level to increase family involvement and knowledge of strategies for educational success.

Reports to Director of Elementary Level Education / Director of Title I

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with planning and implementation of the assigned school’s Title I plan
  • Assist with organizing documentation needed for each school’s Title I plan with regards to parent involvement as based on the Rules and Regulations from the SC State Department of Education and the Federal Grant Guidelines
  • Assist and help school administrators with the implementation of educational night a minimum of three times during the course of the school year.

Topics for the Family Night will be educational in nature and related to parenting issues

  • Assist with Title I school meetings in an effort to improve parent participation
  • Create, distribute and analyze Parent Survey results and compose a needs assessment as detailed in the Federal Grant Guidelines
  • Conduct home visits and provide assistance to parents of children who are identified as at risk ; serve as a member of Response to Intervention (RtI) teams as needed
  • Identify students who have attendance issues; contact parents; create intervention plans with school administrators; attend Truancy Court hearings as needed
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all Title I equipment at assigned school(s)
  • Organize and manage Title I files / documentation for schools for State Department of Education Audits
  • Coordinate and organize placement of four-year kindergarten students in Title I and Child Early Reading Development and Education Program (CERDEP) classrooms based on the needs first criteria determined by the federal grant
  • Maintains and collects state documents for 4K placement
  • Updates and maintains updated rosters and documents for Director of Title I for the district, school leaders and teachers
  • Communicates with parents regarding the placement of 4K students and informs parents of other educational settings for early childhood education
  • Assist in creating a positive transition for the educational experience for young students and families
  • Performs other related duties as required

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience :

Preferably a Bachelor’s degree or two years of experience in education, social work, or a related area; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge :

  • Thorough knowledge of school district policies and procedures pertinent to the duties of the job
  • Thorough knowledge of human growth and development, child development, family dynamics and family issues
  • Knowledge of clerical activities and procedures. Knowledge of basic clerical functions and modern office procedures and equipment

Skills / Effort :

  • Ability to coordinate activities and schedules. Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Skills in organization and maintenance of records and files
  • Ability to keep abreast of current policies and procedures
  • Ability to make decisions in non-routine situations requiring good judgment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, community agencies, and other individuals / groups with interest in the district

Working Conditions :

Requires movement / lifting of items weighing up to fifty pounds. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and meeting deadlines.

Duties of the job may require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment. Some travel is required.
